WOW! That thing looks GREAT! I was expecting plywood and ductape. Nice job, that's incredible. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just a thought....Can you add an exterior oil cooler for the hydro?

Regal,

Beautiful work!

Here's how I do my pics, easy as 123:

1. Sign up for a dump site. (I like http://www.dump.grendosa.com because it's unobtrusive and allows 10 mb totally free, without nags or ads)

2. On the dump site, browse to and upload your pic. There are no restrictions on file size.

3. When it uploads, it gives you a URL to the picture. Copy it and paste it into your post.

Good luck on the pics, and good luck on quieting your cab!

Wow, that is almost unbelievable, but very nice job indeed.

I have a 1986 MF 1030 HST just like that with about 1,400 hrs of seat time on it that I purchased new was back when. Still runs like new.

Never had any problems with the hydro. I suggest that you change out both of the transmission filters, the high pressure and the low pressure. Then fill with a synthetic hydraulic fluid, preferably a multiviscosity one like Amsoil 5W-30 hydraulic fluid, instead of a straight cut hydraulic fluid. The hydro really like the synthetic oil, you will notice a distinct difference in operation.

Also, look closely at your undercarriage and inspect all of the metal high pressure lines underneath and make sure that none of them are crimped or crushed, especially the long line coming back from the hydraulic oil cooler in front of the radiator back to the transmission. If any of the lines are crushed or obstructed, you will not be getting full pressure flow and not have full power through the tranny either. I accidentally crushed that high pressure line on mine (coming back from the oil cooler) and it only produced about 50% of the power that I was accustomed to, until I changed out that line, then it was very powerful indeed.

Also, inspect the rubber connection hoses going into the hydraulic oil cooler too, they could be collapsed and not allowing full flow either and result in excessive heat build up.

Again, that is some kind of nice job, even your custom A/C job is amazing, enjoy! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow! Nice job! I have been thinking about this for some time now as well. You have given me the inspiration to try. Thanks for the photos and please, post any others you mey have.

Bob; Thank you for the link. I'll give it try.

To everyone else; Thank you very much for all your kind replies. I really liked the plywood & duct tape comment. All your responses make a project like this well worth the efforts.
It seems like the wind never quits blowing here in central Iowa, but now when I'm on the seat it really does'nt matter. Whether clearing snow or just mowwing.

THANKS again to everyone. I hope these pics are clickable!!

SKYPUP; Thanks for your suggestions indeed!!
Ive never tried synthetic fluid before but that will most definatly be my next effort. Ive mostly just used Massey's fluids before but right now I have Caterpillar hydraulic fluid in it with no improvement. Ive even tried a high priced BG additive that was recomended by the guys at Caterpillar.
CTyler suggests additional oil cooler but I miss stated it when I reffered to it getting hot. The oil temp is OK. It's just that when it gets closser to opperating temp it gets weaker.
It sounds like air in a hydraulic system. That growl and squeal kind of noise. Also there are a lot of air bubbles in the reservoir after about an hour or so of mowing etc. A couple of years ago I checked every fitting and every line for loose connections and also capped the ends of the lines w/ fittings and pressurized with air while submersed under water to check for bubbles. Oil and filters have been changed several times for the number of hours on tractor. NOT cheap either as you might know.
I bought fittings and gauges from dealer and all pressures are well within specs. The dealer is very friendly and would be more than glad to work on it but he has not heard of a similar problem on the compacts and admits to not having much experience in the shop on these units.
My intention is to tear it down this winter and rebuild the hydro unit or send it out for rebuild if I chicken out once it's on the bench. But first thing will be synthetic fluid. Also there is a very fine screen on the return line just as it enters back into the reservoir. I'm told that in some cases, too fine of screen can cause restrictions. After your explination of a crushed line causing problems it really makes sense that I should address the screen issue.
I still would like some refferences of a place to send the pump for repair if it comes to that.
Thanks again to every one.

Regal,

Guess the links work OK. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have embarked on projects of that magnitude only a few times, and done OK. It's not so much the project that's daunting, but my own reluctance to commit to it for days or weeks. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
