What is the name of the cable that is attached to the foot pedals, and to the lever on the variable speed hydraulic pump? Do all the cables have a steel core, or do some of the units have a hydraulic lever setup?

I for one, would prefer the heel/toe setup over the left/fight pedals for the forward/back. The heel/toe setup seems more normal. It doesn't look like it would be hard to convert.

I call my cable "George". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just kidding

I looked in the service manual for my 422, vintage 2000. The cable is part of the Treadle Assembly section. It is call the Push Pull Cable. So I guess its full name would be "Treadle Assembly Push Pull Cable". The part # is M15088. You number may be different.

I hope this helps.

J_J,
My 2001 PT425 has the cable setup under the tunnel. Stepping on the pedals operates a cable clear back to the engine compartment.

The newer model 425s have a hydraulic valve under the tunnel. Stepping on the pedals operates a valve that has hoses going back to the engine compartment.

I'd call it a treadle cable, but mine has linkage, so beats me!

If you are needing to replace that cable I wonder if you could use a hand break cable that goes on a ten speed bycycle to replace it , if you could Id bet it would be cheaper.

No, I don't think a cable like that would work. The one on the PT is 84 in long, and very heavy duty, and cost about $110.00 to replace. Just from looking at it, the inside cable must be about 3/16 inside a steel casing with a hard rubber shell. On the pump end, there is a centering spring inside a 2 in housing that keeps the transmission in neutral. I am thinking of removing that cable, and lubricate it well before I order a new one.

Is the centering device an integral part or something you could reuse. It sure sounds like the same thing as on mine but it sits at 90degrees to the linkage. No doubt that heavy cable is spendy, but somehow seems about twice what I'd expect [for no particular reason though].

JJ,
In my book for the 2422, it is called the "Tram Cable Assembly" with the cable itself listed as "Push Pull Cable". I have been looking at lubrication also, since it seems to be somewhat difficult to move. If you do remove it for lubrication--as always pictures please. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll do the same if I remove it. BTW, if anyone has a book for the PT2422/25 I need a copy of pages 38,39,40,41, and 42. These are the hydraulic circuit diagrams. Thanks,

Bill

Sorry, I see BobRip gave you the same info. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Guess that must be the right answer, we have two of the same. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It'd be very interesting to see those diagrams, as the ones that came with my 2445 leave plenty to be desired.
