Many days spent in Gulf of Tonkin aboard the USS Coral Sea, CVA 43. Brings back some memories, good and bad... don't like to think about it too much...

I am also a shellback - went to Sydney on some much needed R&R.

Very odd now, not a single bar in Olongapo City now. Used to be about five thousand.

Sad, in a way... So, if no bars, what's there now?

Retail, old places like the large clubs are now car dealerships. Went to Max's for sunday lunch a few weeks ago and could not even find cold beer on the menu.

Very cool video,

The only thing I can relate is I had a close buddy who was on the Nimitz when that radar plane crashed on deck in 81, don't know what color shirt he was and not sure if he was on deck when the crash occured, but he helped put out the fires, said it was pretty scarry with all the jet fuel burning.

JB.

Jim, street venders will never go away... monkey meat on a stick is here to stay. I've had more monkey meat on a stick in the last six weeks that I can count, eaten my weight in ripe mango and clogged my autories with my weight in fried pork skins... dang good eating with some rum and pop cola. Funny sign in Subic above a bar (still bars in Subic), WELCOME US NAVY. Navy has been gone for 20 years. Small boys my still pull liberty in subic and carriers still visit Manila.

My Carrier ( USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72) was the last to visit Subic in 1991.
