Anyone who spent time in Naval Aviation knows what JP-5 taste like in the bug juice and has taken a shower with tainted JP-5 water.

I had to laugh out loud when I read this... I remember it well....I think I recall its laxative affects as well.

I got nostalgic this past veterans day and decided to look up my old home ..USS Inchon.. LPH 12... and was saddened to learn that it was towed off the coast of Virginia and used for target practice.. :(

If you were a final checker getting a chance to finaly eat a hot meal on the mess decks instead of a cold box lunch, when you get to the mess decks you run into a master at arms and he says that you cant eat at the mess hall because you are too dirty. I went nuts and my maintance office had to come get me from the MA's office. My CO got involved and we ended up with a dirty section at the mess hall. I miss those days and officers that would stand up for their enlisted people. A lot of those officers were gone by the time I retired Randy

Hey Randy....Final Checker.....Are they the green shirts?

File:US Navy 051216-N-8163B-004 A final checker makes last minute adjustments to the tailhook of an F-14D Tomcat prior to launch aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71).jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I remember getting dinged by the MA for having my shirt sleeves rolled up. I wound up at XO's mast and got a week cleaning the officers head. After that I cut my sleeves and sewed them up.... :D

Hey Randy....Final Checker.....Are they the green shirts?

Green Shirts were maintenance types (I had a green shirt)
Yellow Shirts were Flight Deck crew (move and direct the aircraft, rig and maintain the catapults and arresting gear and fueling)
Red Shirts were aviation ordinance
White shirts were first aid (other tasks too, but I forget what they were....been 30 some years). Looks like the final checker in that linked picture was wearing a white shirt.

We (troubleshooters/final checkers) wore white shirts with a black checkerboard painted on them and green helmets with a TS on it. we came out of the green shirts and were the quick fix experts on our aircraft. I was a AT qualified as a cdi for all of the other rates. I retired in 1998 Randy

Just checking in here as a new guy shopping around for a tractor.

All these wingnuts floating around, I figured I'd check in as someone that actually did some work on-board one of these things instead of basking in the sun....

Anyways, I was a Reactor Operator/Electronics Tech as a Plankowner onboard the USS Ronald Reagan.

Anyways, Here is a pic of our transit through the Straights of Magellean in South America during out homeport change from VA to San Diego.

Welcome aboard TBN, shipmate. I'm a retired CPO from the guided missile cruiser side of the fleet. I was a missile fire controlman and worked primarily on radar and weapons systems. There are lots of US Navy vets here and lots of retirees too. You'll fit right in if you can take some kidding and dish it out as well.:D:thumbsup:

Just had a A-3D arrive at NAS Whidbey Island to be put on display. Largest aircraft to ever fly from Carriers. We always had two onboard from either VQ-1 or VQ-2. Loaded, about 80,000 pounds. Nick named ALL THREE DEAD, didn't stand a change of ever getting out of that belly bailout hatch.
