I know that all that crap is for the environment, but I have to wonder; these kind of efforts are such a pita is it really worth it. It is kind of like the new gas cans, and in the summer they come on the news and say don't gas up during the day and don't run your lawn more during the day. And all the new emissions stuff on lawn mower and small engines. I know your into boats too; it is like the regulations/bans some lakes have on 2 strokes. The thing is the US and Canada can start all these regs. but the third world countries are the main polluters imho.

Boats are getting worse. If you or anyone is in the market for a boat get one now. The new outboards are going up in price every day and the inboards will be required to have Catalytic Converter systems adding nearly $3000 to each engine I have been told.

Just a sign of the time I think. When they want to outlaw the poppet QA because of the minute bit of oil they drop when connected or reconnected there something wrong.Glad you found the problem. Lots of labor and swearing im sure but doesnt sound like it was costly other than the labor.

Yep so far I only have time invested and the fuel line tool (which I already have somewhere but could not find). I hope I got it straightened out, I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have heard about the catalytic converters beeing required, that is going to add a whole new batch of issues to i/o's. I am willing to bet that the whole exhaust system from manifolds to the bellows and out board will need to be redesigned. I would think that the whole thing will now be running much hotter and then you can have all the issues with vaporlock etc.

My first boat had a 70 evinrude out board, ran like a champ. It only smoked the first start up of the year, it might have made some pollution, but it was a VERY efficient package with that little 16' boat, so how much was the pollution when looked at this way? BTW, I sold this boat to my little brother, and it has been so freakin reliable. Still has perfect compression.
