I have a couple of Canon cameras that I need to have repaired. The electronics seem to have gone south on both. Does anyone have a camera repair facility that they would like to recommend?

You might try going direct to Canon. http://www.usa.canon.com Unless you can find some place local, you'll have to ship it out anyways. Might as well have the factory do it right..

Camera repair shops seem to be far and few between. I found one local to me in Sacramento, Ca. They repaired the light meter(replaced, actually). It only cost about $75, and they did a cleaning while they had it opened up.

If you're talking about the older AE1 SLR's, good luck. I have one of those and nobody wants to touch it.

I have tryed having several cameras repaired and the bills have come out close to or more than I could buy a new one for. Really depressing. Hard to throw out a $400 camera. But not really worth spending $250 dollars to fix a 7 year old camera.

Clemson,

I have not used the guy I'm going to mention but I have seen
him at a professional photography convention for at least five
years. I have talked with almost every year and I would send
my equipment to him before I would send it to Nikon for
repair. I had a bad experience with Nikon. This guy owns his
own company and from what I can tell has a good reputation
with the professional photographers group I know about.

His name is Richard Green. Phone number is 904-257-1366.
Fax 904-258-7065. His address is 1246 Ridgewood Ave,
Holly Hill, Fl. 32117 Richard does 35mm, Medium Format,
and video equipment.

Like I said I have never used him but I would send my
equipment to him if I ever had a problem.

I'm very suprised I found his card! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all who replied. I will write Mr. Green to get an opinion. One of the cameras in question is an Elph II -- an APS camera that my wife uses. It may not be worth working on. The other is an A1 for which I have several lenses. It has been around the world with me, and I want to get it operational again if there is any way possible.

A1 or AE-1? Like I said, if it's an AE-1, good luck. I have a 1976 AE-1 with a couple of lenses. The electronics are fine, but the shutter gaskets are shot - light leaks in. It was a fantastic camera. The shops I have contacted have all told the same thing: The electronics are extremely delicate and tend to corrode and almost always break upon removal. Canon does not make replacement boards.

I have a Canon Rebel G QD, I had the whole camera replaced once under warranty and now that its out of warranty the electronics have gone completely scrambled. I can keep my lenses and flash and get a new body for about $200. I have'nt checked but I'm pretty certain this will be cheaper than shipping and repair.

It's a throw-away world /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

If you already have a bunch of lenses and accessories then jump and ebay and buy a camera body. I had the same problem with my t-50. body was shot but had lots of lenses and accessories. Was able to find bodies at 1/2 the price most camera stores wanted for bodies or repairs.

Yeah, It's an A1. That was the all-electronic model a step above the AE-1 or the AE-1 Program. I guess I will look around for an F1 that is mechanical. At least my lenses will fit it!

The only operational camera at my house right now is my 1956 Rolleiflex.
