BX23
I have a BX23 and am in the market for a PHD. All the subcompact version of the PHD only go down 30 inches (e.g. the LandPride PD10 and Woods PDH25), but I will need to go down below the frost line some time (42" to 48").
Would the next size up (the Landpride PD15 and Woods PDH35) work with a BX23?
Could I just back the rear wheels up on a small pile of dirt to raise the back end if the lifting hight is the problem?
Does anyone here have a PD15 or PDH35 on their BX23 OR BX2230?

Anybody have a comment? I have a large project coming up in 2 weeks and need to know. There is another type of PHD called the Work Saver that is priced better than the Land Pride or Woods or Brush Hog.
Does anyone have a Work Saver brand on a BX series?

I don't know what the PD15 or PHD35 are physically like, but I can tell you that there is no way that my Rhino HPHD PHD would even come close to working on my BX2200.

Someone here has a standard PHD that does work on the BX from what I remember. It is all about how it attaches to the 3PH. Wrong geometry and you will not get the lift. My Rhino PHD JUST fits my B2910, with about 4" clearance under the auger screw tip.

I doubt you will want to drill too many holes if you have to build up a ramp of dirt in front of each one go get height. That will take too much time In my opinion. At least I know I could not stand to have to do that myself.

The BX has the guts to drive a larger PHD, it's finding one that will attach and give the needed lift that is the difficult part.

Any chance of bringing home a PHD (auger not needed for checking fit) and putting it on the BX23, and seeing what kind of lift you get at the working end?

Hope someone comes along who can give you more specific answers... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the standard size PHD with 9" auger on my BX2200, no problem with lifting or with travel height. I do have the Pats Easy Change on the bottom lift arms so they make my lift arms 3 to 4" longer than if I didn't have the Pats Easy Change, even without the PEC I don't think there would be a problem. My lift arms will spread open to about 34" and the PHD lower mount is wider than the normal Cat1 width, which is like 26 or 27". If the PHD you are looking to buy is too wide for your TPH, you can point the lower lift pins inward, although I've never had to do that with any of the impliments that I have used.

Not that this is a solution but if you did not have many you could use a pair of auto ramps to get the extra height.
My PHD is a cat 0/1 unit is very short and I could not drill that deep. It is a Gearmore if that matters.

Car ramps is a good idea if I needed.

I was checking out the Work Saver series of PHD and they seem to be the most compeditively priced PHD. There is a dealer close to me so I will take a look next week. the Work Saver's have 12" extensions if needed which is nice.

Anyone with comments on the quality of the WS type PHD?

FatCat,

I have a Work Saver Model 300 PHD for my bx-23.

Excellent quality and fit on the bx. I would highly recommend it.

I used it to install about 300 ft of fence last summer. I am going to use it for about 200ft more this year.

The only mistake I made was to buy the PHD with a 6" auger. (too small for a 4" post) I ended up buying a 9" and will probably never use the 6" for anything. I would recommend at least a 9" or possibly a 12"

I got mine in the package with my BX, but it was shown on my recipt as $699.99 list.

How much can you get one for??

What is the length of the auger that comes with this PHD? My YM195 D has as much lift as my old 8N, and I ran a 4' Danuser auger on it for years. If the auger is short (36") then I would check the ground clearance at full lift. If there is room, then you could add an extension easily to do what you need. It only needs 1 or 2" of ground clearance. You chain it to the boom for longer travelling. We also added a 2' extension while in a hole to get to 6' of depth. I'm sure that what you are asking is not that difficult to accomplish.

The quote I got was for a Modle 300 @ $575 and $209 for a 9" bit. But you can only dig down to 30" with the #300, the modle 500 can go to 42", but there is a 12" extension for both. Only thing is that the Modle 300 only has standard duty bits, you need to step up to the modle 500 for the HD bits.

I don't know if you can retrofit the 300 with hd bits or not.

Personally the unit seems stout enough to handle much More than I have thrown at it.

Funny I had forgotten that they offfered extensions. Thanks for the reminder.

I don't know how your soil is, mine is apparently very easy to dig in. The standard augers go in like butter.

Some of the other guys have had more experience with clay and hard pan.
