Can a SA cylinder be used with float

So all SA cylinder have some kind of one way vent built in to allow air in?

Yes. Some plow cylinders just have a weep hole behind the wiper seal, some do it other ways, but air has the get in some how.

A true single action cylinder has an air vent at the top on the cylinder, unless it has nitrogen, compressed air, or is spring returned. Look for a vent hole that might be stopped up with rust, crap, etc. It might take a magnifier glass to find it, but it is there. The cyl will have difficulty returning/collapsing unless the air is allowed in to the rod/cyl chamber.

Very nice build!!! I've got a JD4200 that came with a retro-fitted Meyer Plow from a pick-up that some one cobbled up a mount, but not nearly as 'clean' as yours, and it's a pain to remove and remount. Like your enough to rebuild mine. More picts, or comments would be an assist. Either here, or a PM. Thanks! ~Scotty

Edit- Mine currently has the lift chain with no down pressure. Can't say I really need it....~S

Mine's not going to have down pressure for now either.
