Can anyone compare the quality of Chippewa boots to Red Wing?

I can't remember if I ever wore Chippewa boots other than maybe a pair of logger boots, But I could never get a pair of Red Wings to last more than 6 months without coming apart. Either the heel would tear loose from the leather upper, or the toe would delaminate from the base material.

Funny, I've worn Red Wing's for decades. I think I've had my oldest pair resoled twice, I'm sure they're at least 10 years old, and I still use them for hunting (put logger lug sole on them last time). My current work pair is a steel toe, and I've had them for almost 3 years. They are still holding up pretty solid. When I worked in the factory in town (machinist), I bought another pair for that job that needed met-guard protection. That pair got pretty tore up cosmetically from all the steel work, but the structure and the stitching are still solid.

I guess you can turn some guys loose in an empty room with only a plastic hammer and an iron anvil, and they will break the anvil and lose the hammer...

My wife and I both have Chippewa Snakeproof Boots, they are insanely uncomfortable but there aren't that many options in pull on snakeproof boots, even fewer for ladies so, we wear them because it beats the alternative.

I looked at Redwings recently when I changed from lace-up to pull on work boots, I ended up buying Ariat and have been very happy with them.

Based on my experience, I would say that the Chippewa are very well made boots but, I would not want to wear them all day, every day.

I have had Chips for a very long time. Never owned a pair of Redwings. The Chips have worn well and quality has always been excellent. The soles are hard and can make my feet tired at the end of the day if on concrete all the time. 7-8 hours, no problem. 10-12.. and I want them off my feet. They are heavy, but I guess that comes with the package.very thick leather and well built.

Both Red Wing and Chippewa boots are excellent choices, known for durability and comfort. Red Wing boots are renowned for their ruggedness and long-lasting quality, often providing great arch support. Chippewa boots, while costing a bit more, are lighter, more flexible, and have a modern design. If you’re looking for a more traditional, sturdy boot, Red Wing is a solid choice. However, if you prefer a slightly more comfortable fit with a modern look, Chippewa could be worth the extra $100. Both brands are highly respected, so it depends on your personal preference for fit and style.

WOW talking about bringing something back from the dead! LOL this post is from almost 7 years ago!

I have wore boots every day my entire adulthood, either logger or pull-on western work boots. I recently switched to these boots and it's a night/day difference for comfort. This type of sole really supports the foot in a way no others do. I resisted going to this type of boot because I didn't find the appearance appealing, but after I wore them for a week I was sold forever.

I guess I’m the odd one out…

I really liked Chippewa but my last pair had a perfectly good sole separate…

I wear them when brush cutting hillsides which puts a lot of side angle force on the boots…

I'm wearing Thorogood work shoes, US Postal type. The soles on these shoes are incredible. Being a machinist, my Redwing boots and shoes have always picked up chips and carried them into my car and house. That's not the case with the Thorogood shoes. The soles still look great after about a year, they're comfortable, and don't track metal chips. Supposedly they're USA made.

Both Chippewa and Red Wing have their higher line of USA made boots and cheaper imported boots. Read their website descriptions.

I live about 30 miles from the Thorogood factory in Merrill Wisconsin, they have huge selection and some pretty nice discounts for walk in customers.
They do have limits on how many pairs you can get the discount on per month, last time I was there there was a guy from California attempting to buy more than the limit but they wouldn’t allow it unless he paid the regular non discounted price for the extra pairs.
