Looks sort of like an old New Holland, but a bit different from the ones I have seen and used. Pretty good old rakes.

It looks like a John Deere model 851 that was introduced around the mid-fifties.

Someone on agriculture.com said it looks like a JD 894. That's two votes for JD anyway. I couldn't find a pic of the 894, I'll look for a 851 pic. Thanks, Phillip

I found a pic of a rake that a guy thinks is a 851 or a 858. It looks the same as mine. Here is the other guy's rake. Does anyone know the difference between the 851 and 858? Thanks, Phillip

Yep JD or New holland, I believe New Holland made the JD rakes. Get parts from New holland, cheaper than buying parts from JD.

New hollands look similar but are different from what I've seen. They usually have 5 or 6 rake bars rather than the 4 on this one and their adjusting handles are mounted about 8-12 inches above the top of the frame. Later JDs had more rake bars but they were mounted on a round wheel, the new hollands are pretty much all on a star. -Phillip

I know its not a New Holland rake. I spent too many years in my youth assembling NH 55, 56, 256, etal rakes. I was going to guess that it was an Oliver rake. The rear viewing picture of the rake is hooked up to an Oliver tractor. There may be a brand connection.

It is not NewHolland. Would appear to be a JD, tho I don't follow them that closely.

Look over the frame very closely, esp near (not on, but near) the gearbox, and on all flat spots of the frame. You should find a serial / ID tag that will give the make & model.
