I have a grapple on my bucket which I control from a rear remote valve. There are two 1/4" hydraulic hoses about 14' long running from the RR QDs to a set of QDs mounted on the FEL near the grapple.

I am going to add a new valve mounted near the FEL valve to control the grapple and use the rear remote for a hydraulic top link.

Can I cut these long hoses and have the appropreate fittings added to give me two sets of hoses? One set from the grapple QDs to the work ports on my new valve and one set from the rear remote QDs to the new toplink cylinder.
I am plowing new ground here so this may be stupid or just penny wise and pound foolish. Let me know - Thanks

From what I know you can, but it depends on the condition of the hose and what a shop is willing to do. In my opinion it may be better to get new hoses made. Alot of times the fittings are the expensive part and it would suck to put the new expensive part on a old hose that is going to wear out quicker.... It all depends on the hose length (that will determine price of actual hose) and how expensive the fittings really are.

Yes. But you must insure that the proper brand of fittings is used, you don't want to mix brands of hose and fittings-any reputable shop would not do that anyway. If you bought the hoses locally, then just take them there...

if you can find a place that deals in the same brand then maybe they will crimp it on for you, altho many places wont since its unknown the condition of the used hose etc, so sorta a liability issue. i know many times at work a hose that is relatively new and gets damaged will often get put aside with the damage cut off and used when a shorter hose is needed, we just crimp the end we want on to it. but this is the same brand and type of course. i have also crimped a few of our aeroquip fittings onto other brand hoses for my own use, usualy kinda eyeball the crimp diameter, and so far have had good luck, but i definatly wouldnt trust them on critical applications, usualy its more for low pressure stuff etc

Thanks for the info.
If I am hearing you guys correctly you are saying that each hose manufaturer either manufactures their own fittings for their hose or specifies specific fittings by brand for use on thier hose. There is no standard hose.
Yes ?
I guess I will plan on new hoses. The hoses I have now have male ends threaded into the more expensive fittings so I can easily reuse the fittings OK.

They are 1/4" so it's not worth the bother of crimping on a new end. You really have to be careful. On a lot of the older style hoses and crimps, the crimp bites the cover. The newer styles, the crimp bites the wire. You don't want to put a new crimp on an old, weathered cover. A lot of places do it but I won't take the chance. A lot of people think I just want to sell them a new hose and don't understand. I tell them to feel free to go buy a new hose from the guy down the street. I can't afford to have my liability insurance to go any higher.

I though we covered that pretty well;)

Fortunately my NAPA will put a fitting on most any good condition hose I take them. Its not rocket science. You can see when theres a sizing problem.

I am of the opinion that the fittings don't have to be from the same manufacture. The manufacturer says that they should be, but you know a lot of people mix brands. They usually do what you want them to do, and that is to fix your hose. Now if you ask for a hose assembly to be made up, they will try and use brand names, and it could be costly. I can hear some on here now, saying that you gotta, but you don't have to gotta nothing. Maybe with all the same brand name parts, they will give a warranty, but maybe not. What liability, why can some shops make up a hose and they don't talk insurance and the spec involved with the product.

You reckon it is like using no name orange paint on a Kubota that it doesn't make it a Kubota anymore.

I am thinking that business that strictly adhere to the manufacture match up parts are losing business.

Just why isn't there a standard on hyd hose and parts/fittings?
