I have a Kubota L3010 Hst . tractor .My mower is a Landpride 2572 RFM (72").It weighs 685#,lots of mower.I always mow with the FEL off,less chance of hitting obstacles. My point being,power to mow not an issue,weight out back when mower up,marginal in the steering dept.. I would not put a 72" rfm on a smaller frame tractor,unless it was a light weight model mower.
I have a B3030 HSDC. I have bid the mowing for some athletic fields i currently perform fert. programs on. I expect to get the contract & plan to purchase a landpride rfm 2560. I could run the 72" but i want a high quality cut and i dont plan to cut with the fel on. I have a landpride rcr 1542 rotary cutter that i purchased to match my B7500 (16 pto hp) i expect bigtime performance on this unit as i now will provide 23 hp @ the pto. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Sorry to jump in here mid-game but I have to ask because I'm looking at buying implements for my newly purchased used GL-21. It is supposed to have ~24 HP on the PTO and I've been told to use the rule of thumb 5 ponies for every foor of implement. Obviously that doesn't apply to all implements but I was told to heed it particulalry with ground engaging implements and mowers too.
So you will be able to swing a 6' mower w/ 23 PTO HP? Is anyone else doing this? Why was I told different? Is it just a "rule of thumb"? that it given to new tractor owners?

Maybe this was my mistake. I assumed when the OP asked if the B3030 could handle a "Finish Mower" I thought he meant a rear mounted. But maybe that makes no difference?
I'm not real familiar with MMM, do they have a gear box on them like a RFM? I can see a RFM w/ a heavy duty, medium quality 40 HP gear box plus the PTO extension eating up some valuable HP. Maybe with the MMM, since you don't have to transmit the power via a long shaft and there is no real gearbox (??) then you can get away with it.
Please let me know if I'm wron in thinking about this as I want to get the biggest mower my machine can safely handle without taxing the drivetrain.
I can't even guess about the MMM as i know absolutely nothing about them. I think the 5hp pr. ft. of imp. is a good general principal, i will be cutting flat, dry athletic fields in very good condition, rotating sharp blades on every cut and cutting every 4 days in peak growing periods. The 23 pto hp will handle this with power to spare.
A MMM that runs on a Mid PTO will normally run at 2000 RPM's.This mean the gear box does not need to up the RPM's like a RFM. This allows the shaft and gear box to be smaller.
<font color="orange"> Kubota </font> on their site recommends both a MMM and RFM mower for the B3030. Click Here But TNfolksnSC was looking at a Woods rear discharge RFM. These mowers weigh more than a side-discharge mower. <font color="orange"> Kubota's </font> 72" RFM weighs 563. The Woods rear discharge RFM weighs 719 plus it should have a chain guard on the rear edge for protection. To much weight for a B3030 without front counterweight.
Hello ron, my statements in the post above are based on a 60" rfm, not a 72". As you know, im from the smaller implement, better performance school of thought.
I have a 60" front mower. While it does a great job. The lawn looks like golf course fairway after being mowed with my 72" MMM. I think the different suspensions have a lot to do with how the lawn looks.
I don't have any experience with a rear finish mower, I was just relaying my experience with my 72" mmm (which I will admit is limited to last summer). If I didn't already have the tractor-mower combination I would have assumed after reading the posts that my mower is too large for my tractor. I haven't had any problems so far, in fact I'm getting a nicer looking cut than with the 60" mmm I had on my B1750. But after reading the other posts I'm starting to wonder if the 72" mower will wear out the pto components on the tractor sooner than would be normally acceptable??? I assumed that since I bought it from the Kubota dealer with that setup that the tractor would handle the mower.
To answer your questions, my mmm has a gear box and is run off of a mid-pto; don't know how it compares to the rear mount mower. I'll be watching this thread to see what others say.
