beppington, I also live in Fl. I have a 2007 Titan XE with a receiver hitch. I also have a tractor with a FEL/BH we carry on a 21' equipment trailer.
I have never had a problem pulling this with my T. It does use a 2-5/16' ball.
I have also hauled over 6,000# of scrap metal with the same truck and trailer with no problems.
Keep in mind that you need to make sure you can STOP the load, so brakes are important. Also, make sure you tie the load down - FDOT will ticket you for an unsecured load if they see you without it tied down. With that in mind, you will either need heavy commercial type straps (like the truckers use) or chain and binders (this is what I use). The small cargo straps are not designed for a load that heavy. Not only is it unsafe to use the smaller straps, FDOT will ticket.
BTW - I go much further than 15 miles each way when hauling either the tractor or the scrap.
Since you drive a Titan, you might check out Titantalk.com where the towing discussion has it's own category (Titan Towing & Hauling - Nissan Titan Forum)
