I have a Sony cell phone, model Z520A,, full description here and my problem is every time I up load pictures to MY PICTURES folder, the numbers do not follow each other, lets say I up load 5 pictures today, they go in as ( DSC0001 ) and the next time I upload some they have the same numbers and it will not give me the choice on letting the numbers to continue. I called Sony yesterday and they said it was a PC thing and not their phone, I have seen many pictures with high numbers, can you tell me how I can do that ?
I have Paint shop Pro 9 for fixing pictures but no feature to get them to continue. I have to make a new folder everytime:(
Thanks
Jim

I'm not familiar with downloading from a phone, but if you get the files into "your pictures" you can use about any photo browser to rename and relocate the files. I keep all my pictures in logical file folders and give them much more logical names as well.

While downloading the pictures to a folder that already has say 5 photos in it, then it should ask you if you want to overide the photo's with the same name. If you say no, it should either automatically rename them or ask you what to rename them to.

If I say NO, it deletes one of the images named DSC0001 and I lose one. Mine wont give me that choice, I wish it did

If your phone does that Jim, it's better to create a new folder like you are doing. Now, is there a way to re-name the photos while in the camera?

I can't tell you how to get your phone to keep numbering them but I can give you a really easy way to get the computer to sort them out for you.

I started to write my own tutorial and then found this one :-
Rename a batch of photos all at once

If you put all our pictures in the same folder after you downloaded them, by starting the numbering each time with different names, then did this, you can have one continuous numbering system, for very little effort.

Do you get an option as to what you call the group of pictures, other than DSC...

If you don't, I would start off putting them in a seperate folder, rename them and then move them in with all the others.

You could also try using a different program to take them off the camera, which is what I do with all my photos. I use Google Picasa.

I do not get any option till I put them in a folder and I am getting lots of goofy named folders, all I want is my pictures to go in sequentially like others do, and the Windows rename photos at once is great, I can do something with that but if I put in any others in that renamed folder they show up as ( DSC00001 ) and so on? in folder RENAMED, I have to rename them again, not that bad
Thanks for the great link Grrrr, I was starting to feel like your handle LOL

Yeh, you would have to download them to a folder first, then rename all the pics in that folder to something else, then move them all to the folder you want them to be in and then rename them all again. Bit of a pain.

Can I suggest you try Google Picasa. It allows you to upload all your photos easily, rename them all easily and the best bit is that it sorts them all into order from when you took them.

So, it goes through all your pictures and puts them into years, and then months in separate folders. I think it is one of my favourite programs.
