maybe someone will chime in with a answer

I don't know if you have any of the Adobe Suite like Photoshop (Elements) or Bridge but if you do Adobe gives you a very flexible batch renaming tool.

You can make it rename them however you want, like Picture-001 or Picture 001 without the brackets.

Tutorial is here

There are also a bunch of articles here for using other Image Editors.

I do have Paint Shop Pro 7-8 and 9 that I love to use and some Photo-shop programs that I don't use much, would that be in one of those? I hope :D

Here's what you need.
Photo Mechanic 4 - The Essence of Editing

You can renumber your phone in sequence, you can rname them in sequence IE, Tractor 1234, and it will number all the next Tractor 1235, Tractor 1236 etc.

Give your photo's name like Vacation, or name them for the month and year you shot them etc.

You can flip them, delete them, sort them, And does them all in BATCH format, 100 photo's with just one click.

This will make you life soo much easier.

I think you can do it in Paintshop Pro, if I remember correctly it is in File - Batch - Rename Process.

The other thing you could try to make things easier would be to try using Picasa's Import facility. It might be able to take the pictures of your camera and save them with the names that you want. It is at the top of the screen you get when you first start Picasa on the left.

That software looks pretty expensive to me since there are many free alternatives that do exactly the same things

It seems to me the issue isn't renaming the files after they're on the computer or anything like that; it's getting the camera to keep sequencing the filenames. The "DSC..." naming is a Sony thing, so for Sony to say that it's a PC thing is really odd.

I'd look around in the camera options on your phone to see if there is anything about numbering the photos. On all digital cameras I've used (none has been on a phone), I'd have to explicitely go in and reset the count to get it to start back at #1 again. So, I think the problem (and HOPEFUL solution) lies in the phone.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but what do I need to get the pics from my phone to my pc?
Knowing what sort of phone you have would be helpful.

Normally you can either do it by a cable or on newer phones sending it over the net or a LAN. Your phone instructions could probably tell you.

Motorola Razr V3, tried a cable, PC wouldn't recognize so I assumed I'd need some software program. Thanks.
