I have the opportunity to purchase this Bush Hog but don't know if I should get it or not. It is a used 5footer and from what the seller tells me, it came with his tractor already 'gone through' by the dealer. He said he never used it. It has new blades and a new stump jumper that was installed at the dealer. Only problem is I don't have a model number or any info on what the specs are (can't find the model on the website). He's asking $500.

It's an "LX series Deere cutter, model and serial should be on that tag you see by the gearbox. it's a LX4, 5, or 6 depending on width
It's a light - medium cutter in my eyes, does seem to have several patches and repairs

$500 is a good price.. BUT i am wondering why a JD has a Bush Hog gear box?

It looks like the gear box may have been replaced OR did someone stick JD stickers on a Bush Hog mower? OR even worse take another mower, install a BH gear box and paint/label it JD colors..

Also the rear tire structure on all the LX's i see online are green square tubing with a yellow wheel..

is that a deck patch on the right hand side of the pic, where it bends back toward the wheel.

It could be an older model though.. Just something seems 'off' to me on it..

Brian, after a better look, I believe you're right. it just might be a BH Squealer painted up green. That tag by the box should tell the story!

Seller says the tag says "SQ60". I can't seem to find any info online about the mower. Assuming the mower is a Bush Hog piece of equipment, will my 40hp tractor run it? Is it heavy duty? Can anyone point me in the right direction to some reviews or literature? Thanks for all the info so far

$150 for that cutter would be a fair price. It has been junked up all over. Ken Sweet

Seems to be a Bush Hog Sqwealer as joec said. Should I pass on it Ken? What do you see wrong with it?

A cutter that has had that much metal damage and reapirs, probably has a really worn gearbox and driveline. Old sayin, been rode hard and put up wet. LOL Ken Sweet

I bet it is a brush hog SQ600 if you look closer. I'm with Ken on this one!

Where are you located??

Location does make a difference in pricing things like this.

I wont go as far as ken, but I do think $500 is a bit much.

I kinda make a hobbie of buying used 3PH implements at good prices. Some need extensive repair, others just need fresh paint. But I have always made money and it keeps me busy in the shop. So in my area, I do have a pretty good Idea of what things are worth.

And while that does seem to have some extensive repairs, they do look pretty sound. And bushhog gearboxes are tough. And it is indeed an SQ60 Bushhog brand. I think the seller is fooling himself with the JD green colors and associating that with $$$.

But that bushhog, looks to be in pretty decient shape otherwise, I would say $300-$350 as a fair price. $150 is too low. Especially when you browse C-list in my area and see what kind of bushhog you can get for that kind of money. $150 will only buy an old rusty hunk that probabally looked like that one did before the repairs and fresh paint. I buy these $100-150 bushhogs from time to time and repair them in similar fashion to that one. And I usually have no trouble getting $300-$350.

And to answer your question, If you can agree on a price, your 40HP tractor should have no trouble with it at all. But it is a light-medium duty cutter. There are FAR heavier and beefier 6' cutters out there, but there are also lighter cheaper ones as well. As long as you dont abuse it and try to mow over 2-3" trees regularly, it should serve you well.
