Can you back drag, or back rake effectively with a dual hydraulic grapple?

I back drag with my skid steer rake all the time, usually with the grapple down for better visibility. Mine does have a 3 inch pipe about 10 inches up from the tine points.

It works awesome. I do it all the time. mine has 2 clamps and 2 teeth each. They are on one line so they can raise and lower independently to grab an uneven object like a stump but for back dragging they just level out. 4 teeth is all you need for bushy scrubby stuff usually. it doesn't take much to grab the whole pile.

The only time I back drag is when the job is done and I'm dressing things up. Not too long ago a friend asked me what disc I used to finish a field. There was no disc, only back dragging with the grapple.

Compared to a typical rake grapple that has one lid and many tines, a typical 2 lid L grapple with only 4 tines will not back rake worth a dang. But they can do an "okay" job.

What are you trying to back rake?

It will not do dirt, but pulling brush backwards works really well.

Limbs, woody debris, roots from a clear cut

A Landscape Rake on the back of your tractor is a great compliment to a grapple for finishing, cleaning up fine debris.

Agreed. I have this ETA 84" model with gauge wheels, which make a heck of a good difference.

Yep. That is one attachment I have not got around to buying yet. Sure would be handy cleaning up debris.
