Can you believe these property taxes>

Slowrev, you just repeated my biggest issue with any tax; property taxes. The foundation of our great country is based upon private ownership of land. That is supposed to be the very fabric of our doctrine and the goal of every person; to own their own home. However, if you do not continue to pay property tax forever , the government comes and takes it away from you. Therefore, in the U.S., nobody is allowed to actually own property!!!

Okay, you can probably guess, my property tax burden is rather heavy. Completely "paid for", lock stock and barrel, if I were to give my estate to my kids, they would have to sell it because they could not pay for the property tax alone! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Maybe it's just me, but there is something wrong with that!! I worked very hard to pay for something with my after tax dollars, but yet it will continue to be taxed for eternity. In essence, I don't own anything. I cannot actually ever pay it off! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Grrrrrr! Obviously a sore spot with me.

In my wildest dreams I can't imagine owning the beautiful properties you guys do.

I live a few miles from Burnt Hills, NY I can't imagine what the taxes are on that farm that developers offered over 1,000,000$ for. and this is a somewhat economically depressed area. 50k per year is considered by most a very good wage.

I own a 3,000 sq ft duplex on 1.5 acres. One side of my property borders Amtrak. My combined land and school taxes are 6,800 based on an 1989 assessment of 155,500. The town is reassessing this year and our taxes may go up 50%.

The tax system is flawed I pay over 3k in school taxes and we don't have children. Yet the next house over they make a good $ raising 7 foster children that are in the school system.

I know of many people up here that have 250,000$ mortgages high taxes and 2 car payments on a 50k salary, and no rental income. I don't know how they do it. Maybe I sleep better at night than they do.

The taxes up here stink, but I'm still thankful for what I have.

$24000.00 on 100ac not that bad, how about $ 13000.00 for 1/2 ac
and still have to send my kids to prevate school at $3000+ a year

AZ property taxes are not cheap, but neither are they too bad.

One nice thing in AZ I am looking forward to, is that at age 65 you can freeze the property taxes on your house for as long as you still live there.

Oh yeah, that really gets my ire as well!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif In the last two years my homeowners insurance has gone up 150% and I've never had a claim in the 22 years I've been with my company! They claim my rates are going up so much because of the hurricanes in FL and terrorists. So far, we've had neither in Indiana!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Grrrr! Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping out, but 150% increase!!?? C'mon. Insurance is supposed to be bases upon your specific risk. I live in "earthquake" country, but I don't expect people in Florida to have their rates triple to cover earthquakes! My rates are already "adjusted" because I live in an earthquake area. Now it's adjusted for hurricanes in Florida!

Is it just me that thinks, something's got to change regarding taxes, and insurance rates? Who's going to be able to afford it?

Public services have gone too far, and gotten too darned expensive. Quite literally people here in Missouri can not afford to inherit the old family farm, because of inheritance tax. It's insane!

Is there a fix? No fix in my opinion would be acceptable, not in this day and age of P.C. I guess the country will just melt down from taxes, outrages property values, insurance rates, and unemployment.......

Yep, Dummy, in my part of the country, the insurance on our little place in the country cost just about twice what the property taxes were.

I could be worse like my neighbors 1 acre, $25,000 taxes 5,000 sq ft home...LI NY location

Its insane and it should be illegal...

It is just going to keep getting worse until people put their foot down and say no more. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif THEY seem to think that we have bottomless pockets and most of us don't.
