There are two problems. The first problem is that there are too many people on the government payroll. My sister-in-law works at the courthouse and everytime there is an issue to be voted on that affects the county they are all threatened if it doesn't pass they are going to lose their jobs. So you have all these people voting for absurd tax increases, etc. because they believe they are going to get fired if they don't. And you have that part of our population that thinks that everything should be shared. If you do well take it away and give to to the guy that doesn't so it's all nice and fair. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif You want to scrimp, save, and work hard to have some land and a nice house. Ok great but hey we're going to tax the last dime out of you as a reward for your hard work. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

And insurance well insurance has the biggest pact fund of any organization out there. Who do you think all of the laws are going to favor? Certainly not us lowlifes that voted the guy into office so he could give the insurance industry even more power. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Compared to others.. my taxes/insurance seem reasonable.. but I still want something for my $. Recent article stated new assessments(every 3 years) are suppose to take place soon.. the assessed property values are expected to increase 3 fold.

I think it's time to change the government services to pay-per-use.

I have:
No kids...
No city water..
No city sewer..
No trash pickup..
Plus.. now we have a flush tax and a fire tax that were both recently added.. even if you have septic.. and the closest fire dept is volunteer one.. bite me.

The county does a great job of keeping the roads cleared in the winter.. I guess that's so I can go to work and pay more taxes. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Maybe I need to go re-visit that boathouse thread..

Hello neighbor !! I least tractors keep us sane correct??

the best part about the tax disparity is you see in the paper 3-5 million dollar homes only paying 6-10k in taxes....

5,000 square ft home ! I would live in about 1200 sq ft and make workshop area out of the rest of it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Actually that is about the total square footage of my home and workshop, tractor shed, and garage...
My annual property tax bill is a bit over $550.00 and for that discount price I don't have zoning or other excessive rules on what I do with my property.

Yea mine just doubled this year to $450.I'd a never have thought taxes would be something that would keep me from buying a place. Its just criminal.

Just to demonstrate what this causes: I have a 57 acre place for sale with an old house. The taxes are $300/year. Just today got a call from a couple in NH that is selling their place and moving here. The primary reason is taxes. They are paying $6000/year for just a few acres. For $6000/year they can easily buy the 57 acres and the farm base covers the taxes.

Not sure what the long-term affect will be, but this is happening quite frequently here in NW Missouri.

With the current political season, we are experiencing the adage: " When you take from Peter to give to Paul - you can always count on the support of Paul".

What happens when Peter has nothing left that the Government can take? Will Paul then go to work? I wouldn't make book on it.

For my 6,800 I get very little

I have:
no kids
no sewer
pay for trash pickup
pay for water (400$ per year)

I started fencing my yard this year. Big project. I Paid for a survey, discreetly checked codes and followed them but did not obtain a permit. Why not? because they wanted a contractors written estimate for materials and labor costs in order to price the permit and know the dollar amount to raise my taxes. Even though I am doing all the work my self and have gotten the materials at a substantial discount.

Did you know that you need workmans comp insurance on yourself to work on your own house in some areas up here.

I can't imagine what it is like in long Island. Wait yes I can Look who was voted in to represent us.

I've spent quite a bit of time in the North East US and really like living in the sticks much more. Not trying to run anybodys place down... just like the quieter pace of living here. And lower property taxes, there, I mentioned the thread topic so this post is OnT /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Naw, actually it sucks here, no one move here please....
