Canadian Diesel to Contain 2% Bio-Fuel

Hmmm.... a Nanny State government, with a Holier Than Thou Attitude.... yep, got one here in Ontario too. Global News did a great montage showing Enviro bills being read out inside Queens Park, overlaid with video of the Govt violating all the same regulations..... you could argue time, but I'd bet a year later, not much would be different.

Personally, I'm actually more green, than Nuke the Whales side of things... but if the govt actions started making actual sense to me, I'd immediately see professional counseling !

My personal favourite.... out in the Greater Vancouver area, they don't route public transit buses over many/most bridges. The reason - the traffic is too bad ! Good to see the officials out there are heavy users of BC's most famous export ! :confused2:

D.

I recently moved from there, and this is not true. There are lots of busses using the bridges. Yes, they are busy, and I'm proud to have survived long enough to have escaped the rat race there. Rush hour in greater Vancouver lasts from 2:30 until near 6:00. ( Don't know about the mornings because I refused to travel then.) The nearest city to my new home is Kamloops where rush hour is actually less than an hour and here in Scotch Creek it last a few seconds, but only for six weeks in the summer when all the tourists invade here.

Do you eat a lot of soybean oil?

No, neither do you. But it can be used for other things. I would not have a issue if it were made from alga or saw grass.

I'm all ears re. pro's/con's on BDzl, I do want to learn more.... one company near here is doing an in-house pilot (going well, last I heard) project - they use recycled plastic to generate their own BDzl.

Not trying to thread-jack (honest)... what I was ranting about b4 is the Port Mann bridge - depending who you talk to (Suzuki), it can be considered the Vancouver area. According to a buddy of mine, 28 years in BC, on the road for his trade, they don't route transit buses over the Port Mann. There may be more, but just on it's own (TransCanada Hwy !) the Port Mann is pretty critical.

Sometimes my ranting may be obscure  , but this one is connected to reality. OK, I'll be quite now about bridges

Personally, I'd like to see the recycled plastic approach work out.... we are drowning in waste plastic....... D.

Thnx Luremaker - that is a great link. I've sent it along to a few friends of mine.

Really nice that he put the time in to make the unit that portable.... it is really expensive to get fuel into remote/poor areas, but it seems there are few places on the planet that are short on trash.

If those #'s are even close, (1kwh input for 1 litre crude oil out), that should scale really well. I can see why the company near me is taking a run at this... they are an electronics recycler, so have (literally) tons of plastic sitting around - they could easily supply all their in-house diesel needs - not a small thing, given the tax burden on fuel here.

That is one stat I need to track down... how much of global oil production goes into plastics.... it has to be a sizeable #.

I'll have to see if I can find out more about how this type of technology is doing at the commercial level - it really makes sense (much more so than converting potential food to oil) that converting plastic to oil should be a relative no-brainer.

Been using B5 in my 4010 for quite some time now. No problems.

After 3 tankfuls of B5 in our 1983 Benz, it's fuel filter plugged up for first time in 25 years. It cleaned the crud out of the tank. This is a well-known phenomenon.

Using B5 in our 2010 VW TDI. (Sold the Benz.)

Innarresting..... I was familiar with the "flush the crud" situation with pure or waste Veg oil systems, but hadn't realized that the bio would hit that hard at a low concentration.

I'm assuming the "5" means 5% bio.
