Canned Gasoline?

Buy what ever you like, but I've had two saws cost me 60 bucks a piece from E gas in dealer repairs... The fuel line I fixed on one of my "other" saws was 7 bucks, not a dollar a foot, as the dollar a foot would not work...

A friend had a saw under warr, score a cyl., it cost him a LOT to get it fixed, because the mfg blamed E gas on the damage and wouldn't pay for the repairs... (yes it happens)

Yes canned fuel IS expensive, but it can be a good deal for some folks...

I stated in an earlier post, why I bought a big can of it...

BTW, the canned fuel has a lot longer shelf life than gas...

I've learned you can only make things idiot resistant. After that, it gets too expensive to weed out the last 1%.

I actually fired a kid that lit a 350 gallon fuel truck full of 100LL aviation fuel on fire by checking the level of the tank in the dark with a lighter while sitting in the middle of a 50,000 gallon fuel farm. Absolutely unbelievable. It reminded me of a cartoon!

Wow, I thought I had the best idiot. One of my guys shoveled a load of charcoal embers into our dumpster just as the garbage truck arrived. Said garbage truck then went 5 blocks before he had to dump his entire load in the middle of the street because his truck was on fire. The truck driver had spit flying in all directions when I met him in our lobby to discuss the problem. My wife and her co-workers still laugh at me over that one.

What is the advantage of canned gas over E free gas? I burn quite a bit of mixed has a year, and it would cost a fortune using the canned stuff. I have never had a problem on good equipment with E free gas. My Husky saw is over 10 years old and has never had a problem.

The problem around here was that ethanol-free gas was much harder to find than a "kAb0tA 4bY4 TrAcToR" for "$23II" "iN a cOnTaiNeR rEAdY tO sHip" on Craigslist.

One place about 30 miles away finally got some, then recently a place about 4 miles away. Now I make my own and refill the cans.

What were the repairs?

What were the repairs?

Carbs, fuel lines and filter...

BTW, my 4 wheeler has to have the carb rebuilt yearly, if I use it much with E gas... It's now an older machine, and was never made to have it in it.

Yearly carb rebuild on a 4 wheeler? That stinks. As I mentioned, I've been running E10 since I believe, the early 80's, regular grade, in everything I've ever owned. It was quite popular here because we had one of the first ethanol plants in the country back then, and hey, we're supposed to support the local farmer, and get foreign fuel independence and all that stuff, right? I've never purchased a gallon of high octane fuel. The only exception was my drag bike. And that was gifted 100LL from the airport sump tanks.

What goes bad on the carb on the 4 wheeler? I've heard of problems with unleaded gas being used in older engines designed for leaded gas, but have never seen first hand any issues with E10, except for that one fuel line. And I'm only assuming that was the cause of the fuel line problem, only because a bunch of people told me that's what caused it. For all I know, it could have gone mushy with E0 as well.

E fuel DOES eat fuel lines, I've seen it too many times...

On my 4 wheeler, after about a year or so, gas leaks from the carb... I almost never drive it these days, because I have a S&S that pretty much replaced it. My dealer friend that went through the carb last time, said E gas is dissolving the 0 ring seals in the carb.

It also dissolved the seal in the petcock, I replaced that too some time ago...

It now needs carb work AGAIN, but I haven't done it, as it mostly sits unused in the barn...

Same here. I never pay much attention to the gas I put in any of my machines, and have yet to have any trouble that could be attributed to ethanol. Ethanol has become the go-to scape goat for a lot of fuel related engine problems. It’s just easiest to call it an ethanol problem.

I started using the canned gas because of the infrequency I was using my 2-stroke equipment. However, if I have a bunch of work to do, I buy premium fuel and use stihl or husky 2-stroke oil. Any remainder gets thrown on the burn pile.

To those that are rebuilding ATV carbs yearly. Are you using premium fuel (92 octane)? In all my small engines, I only use premium fuel and I seem to have less headaches.
