I have an early to mid 60's Ford 2000 3 cylinder Diesel with an 8 speed (high/low) and a tire up PTO shaft. My bush hog has pulled the shaft out of the rear end about 2 inches. After removing the shaft and housing, I have found that there is no split ring attached to the shaft behind the bearing (no place for one) and the bearing has slid back 2 inch (came un-pressed). Because of this, I have been looking for a new shaft assembly or at least the items to build a new assembly.
Problem I have run in to is I can't find the correct shaft. It is a 10 spline input and around 26 inches in length. Only Ford 2000 PTO shaft I have been able to find is 29 1/2 inches long. Ordered this assembly and the shaft splines into the trans great, but is 3 inches too long. Also the housing that came with it is identicle to my original except for the overall diameter of the housing (part that goes into the big hole in the rear end) is barely too large to fit. Haven't had this tractor very long and do not know the history. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
