I have an early to mid 60's Ford 2000 3 cylinder Diesel with an 8 speed (high/low) and a tire up PTO shaft. My bush hog has pulled the shaft out of the rear end about 2 inches. After removing the shaft and housing, I have found that there is no split ring attached to the shaft behind the bearing (no place for one) and the bearing has slid back 2 inch (came un-pressed). Because of this, I have been looking for a new shaft assembly or at least the items to build a new assembly.
Problem I have run in to is I can't find the correct shaft. It is a 10 spline input and around 26 inches in length. Only Ford 2000 PTO shaft I have been able to find is 29 1/2 inches long. Ordered this assembly and the shaft splines into the trans great, but is 3 inches too long. Also the housing that came with it is identicle to my original except for the overall diameter of the housing (part that goes into the big hole in the rear end) is barely too large to fit. Haven't had this tractor very long and do not know the history. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cant you cut the shaft?

To cut it to correct length, I would have to extend the splines. Having it splined at a machine shop will cost more than I paid for the whole assembly.

Is this shaft internal to the tractor, and not an external PTO shaft from the tractor to an implement?

It is the PTO output shaft located at the rear of the tractor. Not talking about an implement driveshaft.

Wow, wish the respondents would stop guessing unless they knew about fords, you are asking useless questions of the op.

One issue is if the op has a 3 cyl 2000, it is not an early to mid 60, it is mid plus.. IE, 65+. If he us searching 60-64, he's seeing 4 cyl stuff.

Well, sorry. I for one was not at all clear what the OP was asking, and needed clarification. I'm truly sorry for the pain you endured when your panties bunched up down there.

I mean, it was all of two one-sentence questions, I can understand the pain that Soundguy had to endure

This tractor is so beat that the serial numbers are almost un recognizable. Due to the sheet metal, it makes me believe it is an early diesel (65-66 or so) but even then, I have looked through every part number for a Ford 2000 PTO shaft and none are correct, either too long or wrong input spline. Thank yall for the help and comments so far.

if you didn't know what you were doing.. then why guess.

He's identifying what part ne needs and what part he has tried... what's unclear?

I didn't guess, I asked two clarifying questions. From his original question, I could not tell he was asking about an internally lubricated part. My second post was a clarification on that point. There may have been others having the same issue wading thru the question.

I don't see why you're so all hurt and put out.
