can't get my new steering wheel on my ford 2000 tractor

hi folks, i spent a few hours removing the old steering wheel off my 1973 ford 2000 tractor, and thought it be a breeze to install a new one but it wont even go down by using a large socket and large hammer. I'm afraid i might damage something in the power steering. Is there a trick or tool?

Wrong wheel? Should drop right on. Where did you buy it?

Wheel for a 4 cylinder 2000 will be different than a wheel for a 3 cylinder 2000.

Compare the splines.

There may be a 'master spline'. One spline will look flatter than the rest.
