Capless fuel tanks... is the idea as dumb as it seems?

One thing for sure, glad gas is cheap or thieves would be siphoning it out of cars with no filler caps.

No filler cap on the 2019 Ford Ranger (capless) but when you lock the truck the fuel tank cover is locked, so criminal mischief is thwarted.

I have a two foot long screwdriver that says different. Now you are missing gas, AND have $1500.00 DAMAGE.

Tried siphoning fuel out of a Honda FIT a few years back to run some 4 stroke gasser. Couldn't get that hose in, no way, no how.

If you're going to that extreme you may as well punch a hole in the tank... then screw in a fitting so that you will be stealing clean gas.

I'm guessing not too many gas thieves are intereted in crawling around under a vehicle. Funny. I sometimes got a ride to work with a guy that worked at the same company and lived in the same apt building. One morning his car didn't turn over. Someone had stolen his starter motor!

....maybe because so many people forgot to tighten their fuel caps? (or even install them) I can't believe how many people still ignore their tire pressures even with TPMS light on the dash. Duh.

The TPMS is another system that has the stench of EPA all over it. I am not too stupid to check my tire pressure, nor is my wife, but we just had to spend over $200 to have 2 of them replaced on her junk 2007 Toyota Solara.

I don’t figure they’re too interested in prying open gas caps either. There’s plenty of easier targets.

You must not drive many rocky dirt roads. Love TPMS, I've retrofitted my older vehicles with them. Used to be by the time I knew I had a flat it was too late - tire destroyed. Had two flats just recently - the TPMS alerted me while the tires still had plenty of air in them and both were able to be repaired no problem.

I also have saved tiredue to pressure sensor. Nail in tire was loosing pressure quick. On original topic before capless fuel replacing faulty leaky cap was frequent occurrence

I never have a problem with the fuel cap. One common occurrence for GM pickups is having the charcoal canister clog up with dust. One shop is alleviating that by moving it from under the frame to up under the engine compartment.

For a while many vehicles 'lost' their catalytic convertors when parked in shopping malls.
Battery powered saws make quick work for perps.
LOL, also they even steal manhole covers.

As an attempt deterring such practices all recycle yards now require a copy of driver's permit before accepting scrapped materials.

I once saw a vehicle in a dealer's lot sitting on the drums as a perp 'borrowed' all 4 mounted tires overnight'
