The way I understand it. The uninsured motorist coverage is for only people ( other than you'er family) riding in the vehicle with you that may not have insurance to cover madical bills. The insurance agent & I were discussing this the other day when I raised my homeowners Liability to 1 mil $
That is not correct. I believe that you are talking about "medical payments". Your uninsured motorist insurance covers, you, your family and all occupants of your vehicle, in the event that you suffer damage at the fault of a driver who is uninsured or underinsured.
Laws may have changed since but in the 1980s my 17 year old son was a passenger on a motorcycle whose driver was uninsured and was at fault in an accident and my uninsured motorist insurance covered all his hospital bills plus pain and suffering. By the way, my insurance company told me that the insurance did not cover family members who were not in my vehicle, but my lawyer said it did, and after he spoke to the insurance company, they paid up.
