What model? Even the 2008 Hemi Limited retails for around 15K if it's a Grand Cherokee. On the trade, who knows what they gave.

On the expensive model 2008 Cherokee, with 83k, blue book came up over 21k when I entered. How close you actually pay to KBB depends on market and car.\

My point was, she may not have been swindled as some have implied. SUVs cost alot of money new.

State is Ohio.

No it won't be expensive. 75k mile used case is $400. And I'm going to install it when they get it, which is when she gets the $400 together on April 10th. So that will only cost them the price of a case or two of cold ones.

So while a $400 repair to me or many of us is nothing. For a 22 year old stay at home mom it's tough. I've been there. Know what it's like to live check to check. But waiting til the 10tg is fine with me. Gives them time to explore all options in hopes the dealer pulls through. Like bbb, corporate, media, etc.

I 100% believe she's getting hosed. Which is why they will never get my business, nor anyone I know if I can help it.

The transfer case would not have last 3 months, if they didn't fill it. So that implies leak. You can argue you should keep on top of that yourself. Though as low as some of these cars and SUVs are, it is tough. Did they put it back together wrong? 3 months is pretty quick for a gasket or sealant to fail.

I just don't have much faith in Jeep products. I know people that drive them. I would research to find out if this is a common problem.

I am just trying to be devil's advocate on this. I would be ticked if they said they fixed it before I bought. But if it was my kid, I would like to know more. Is this a problem with that model? Same seal leak?

Also I have not had one go on me, is their a warning, that she failed to heed?

THAT's exactly why I'm scratching my head. 22 year old stay home mom living paycheck to paycheck buying a $20,000, 9 year old vehicle, and it's making noise the first month driving it, you only have a month warranty and the dealership won't make time to see you to check out the problem, then you get it to your relative to look at it 2 months later? Something wrong with this picture.

LD1 - I have no doubt that you're a good man, I'm just thinking you have the brains in the family, and I mean that as a compliment.

Like I said, can't pick family.

Millenials spend alot on cars.

Though older generations have always loved cars too.

But it is neither here nor there. She bought it. She wanted something to haul kids around, SUVs are good, and popular. Either way, have to deal with the issue at hand.

I don't know the financing, but some people get in this trap of I need a reliable car, and have blinders on, about models. It is pricey, but not like she went out and bought a new one with 7 year loan. Which sadly is what many are doing.

I think this is a bit harsh. She did go the used route. Granted I think she could have went cheaper. Alot of people are afraid of older vehicles. I put 40k a year on my truck, so I am not afaid of high mileage, but some are. Though I do feel better about it cause I know the history of the vehicle.

Did I gloss over it in this thread, or has it come up before, her income?

At 24 I bought a new truck for $25k, but I had no kids, and a good job. Drove it until the frame cracked.

I think this is a bit harsh.

$20,000 for a 8 year old Jeep is a hard reality check that you gosh darn better know what you're getting yourself into.

If the vehicle only had a 1 month warranty and it was making a noise within that month and the excuse was the dealer wouldn't make time to see me, I have no clue where the adult supervision was on the buyers side. Apparently it didn't come from the buyer, nor the young buyers parents.

I can tell you that if my boy had a woman with child who was 22 years old, and they were living pay check to paychek, and he told me he was buying a 20k vehicle, my wife would have to stop me from slapping him silly while asking him where his brains are at.

I guess you know more about this then I do. I missed all the details about his daughter.

What did she not know though, other then not to buy a Jeep they are unreliable?

The whole idea of a parent IMO is feedback and guidance when the child becomes the adult, and my line of thinking is that if your raised your child half decently, they would ask you for advice, particularly when it comes to spending large sums of money.

Given the circumstances per the OP, I would find it hard to believe that she didn't need someone to co sign the loan. That's where if I'm putting my john hancock on a line for an offspring of mine, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to be asking A LOT of questions and following up with what I signed my name to.
