Car milage \'comparisons\'

I'm contemplating buying a new car. I'd like to get a high mpg one. Don't know that I trust any of the window stickers to be accurate (as far as REAL world milage goes)

I'd like some to post their cars (fairly recent vintage) and what kind of real world milage you get.

I'll start with my wifes 2005 Toyota Camery, she gets a fraction over 34 mpg (driven primarily highway)

My mom has a 2004 Honda Civic and she tells me she gets around 44

Others?

my wifes 2003 camry gets 28mpg: my 2004 4wd chevy 4 door gets 17.

How recent a vintage? And just cars? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

2001 Windstar SE Sport with 60k on the odometer = 19.680 mpg
2001 Ranger XLT 4-door supercab (4.0L engine) with 43k on the odometer = 18.357 mpg

Both are automatics, loaded, and the air-conditioners running most of the time, and mostly stop and go city driving. On a highway trip in July, right through your neighborhood, the Windstar averaged about 22 mpg.

My Lexus ES300 gets 25 to over 30 highway. Most is city...Filled up yesterday...Got 25.7 mpg with AC on 100% of the time (on auto fill time)..

03 Chevy Monte Carlo - under 60/31 mpg, over 60 mpg 28 mpg

'97 Chevy S-10 Extended Cab w/ 2.2L 4-banger, 235K miles on the odometer still gets 28 MPG over the highway (doing 65 with the windows down... the A/C doesn't work any more /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ). This is as good or better than the sticker rating on this thing brand new. I can't complain, but I would like to have a VW TDI getting 40+ MPG to drive to/from work.

2005 2.3L 4cyl accord manual trans 31 in mixed driving w/ lead foot (epa 26/34)

2001 F150 5.4 V8 auto 14 in mixed EPA 14/17

2004 Honda Pilot 3.5L V6 auto 20 in mixed EPA 17/22

It's been my experience over the years that the Japanese cars do "better" vs. domestic ones when compared to the EPA estimates.

2003 Chevy AWD Astro Van. HWY 70mph /17.5 mpg Under 65mph/19.5+, City 17.0
2003 Pontiac Montana 70mph/25 mpg Under 65mph/27 Under 60mph/29+ You take your life in your own hands at this speed on the freeway. Even the trucks will run you over. City 24.0
I live in the country. Most stops are about 1 mile apart.
The mpg as they were posted on window sticker matches the mileage I have gotten on both these vehicles. I have checked the mileage with the digital display that GM supplies. They are both off by about 1 mpg. The Astro gets less than the display and the Montana gets more.
I have done some shopping for a new Montana. It disappoints me that they do not get as good mileage as my 2003. They have a bigger motor and are rated at 24 mpg highway.

Here's a Consumer Reports article (free) on real-world mpg on SUV's and wagons. The highest mileage vehicle in the bunch is the Scion xB. Now there's a funny looking "car". /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My 2005 Accord 4cyl automatic gets 25 in town, 35 highway.
