Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

2003 Impala with the 3.4 v6. We got an actual measured 32 mpg on our last highway trip, with three adults and two kids, lots of luggage and the air on. Get about 25-26 average for our usual driving, which is more highway than city. Not bad mileage for a decent sized automobile with a humongous trunk.

2000 Chevy Impala
3.8 Liter V6
low 20s in the city
Averages 29 MPG in normal highway driving.
Nice, roomy car with plenty of room for adults.

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

One more thing... it's the city driving that kills the mileage. YIKES! Our Impala has that neat little gauge over the mirror that can show instantaneous mileage. It gets mid 30s MPG to low 40s MPG consistently when cruising in town at 35-40MPH. But man, when you stop, mileage drops to 0(DUH) and while you are accelerating moderately, it stays at 8MPG. Stomp on it and it drops to 1 or 2 until you let up. Coasting downhill is fun, though. MPGs of over 80 are easily achieved! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

My 2 cars are as follows.
1990 Subaru Loyalle 4wd wagon. 25/34
1993 lincoln townhouse 4.6 litre 18/26

The best part is they are both long paid for so I can afford to pay more for gas /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And save quite a bit on collision insurance too.

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

www.fueleconomy.gov is a good site to check the info.
My '00 Ranger gets exactly what they claim, as a matter of fact I get 23mpg w/air on the Atlanta Motor Speedway on a daily basis, typical cruising speed is between 80-85 not counting the ocasional accident. Most of my driving is stricktly highway.

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

I ran into a guy today filling up his VW Jetta Diesel while I was filling up some extra 5 gallon containers ..just in case. I asked him what it got mileage wise and he said he averaged 42mpg combined city/highway. That was impressive to me since it was not a real tiny car!

Mine..
05 F-150, CC, 4X4 w/5.4 engine 15/16 mpgs

03 Explorer w/4.6 engine 16-17 mpgs

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

That Lincoln Townhouse gets that good of mileage?

My ES 300 get's right at 25 mpg, but our newish Audi allroad gets about 16 - in town. Fortunately my wife only drives it about 3 miles a day to work, 3 days a week, so it doesn't impact us too badly.
My 05 Toyota Tundra is getting the EPA city estimate exactly - 16 mpg..........

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

Yea, the Towncar, Crown Vic, and Grand Marquis are all fully capable of 25mpg. Not bad for a full size sedan huh?

Re: Car milage \'comparisons\'

it isn;t great -- think about how fast those miles fly by @ 65 mph?>?

there are technologies which will greatly increase this mpg... e.g. diesel hybrids. i'm diesel fan, rightfully so...
