I've done this before (removing carb) but it's been a while and I'm baffled as to how to get this carb off; (see pics). It's mounted atop the small gas tank and getting access to everything is a challenge. I've gotten all the bolts/screws off but now cant remove the governor/throttle linkage (I believe) from where it snaps into the carb linkage - and with that long tube extending down into gas tank from carb, and can't just rotate the carb to disengage linkage.

If my memory is correct you have to remove the gas tank and carb as an assembly to allow rotation to remove that linkage? I wouldn’t bet the farm on my memory being correct though….

Ack, I’m having a recurring nightmare after reading this. I just got through messing with a friends tiller with a similar setup. Oldnslo is correct, on his I’d have to take the tank off and tilt it and the carb just right to get the linkage disconnected.

Not a post about how to pull carb but I faced same problem of replacing carb. Ordered new carb last year with intention of replacing on my tiller. Had not been run in years, so I thought I would try to get it going. First I poured seafoam down air intake until it stalled, would run if you poured gas down carb but stop when it used that up. Let set for 2 days, replaced rubber diaphragm, then I emptied all the old gas out of tank and mixed 1 qt. of gas and 1 ounce of seafoam. Poured some of the mix down carb and started pulling rope. Started after about 10-12 pulls, running rough at first but leveled out. Now starts with 2-3 pulls and runs like it used too years ago.

I start by removing the 2 screws that secure the control panel to the carb and tank. With that out of the way. I remove the bolt that holds the L bracket with the throttle linkage. You can twist the L bracket to get the linkage out of the bracket.. And then pop the other control out of the holder to the left of the L bracket that had the shoulder bolt. And then remove the remaining 3 screws that secure the carb to the tank. Remove the 2 bolts that connect the carb to the engine block. and you should be able to remove the carb without removing the tank.
I do it that way to avoid having to deal with disconnecting and reconnecting the governor spring. Which can be a challenge within itself sometimes.

Thanks Randy. I think I did some variation of this the first time as I didn't remove the tank. But removed tank today and kinda glad I did - the governor arm and that geared/slide down at the bottome of the bracket as an oily gunky mess!!!

But now my issue is that I am not sure that I got all the linkages back, not so much in the right place, but in the right order. The throttle & governor linkages seem to be running into the choke linkages. Anyone ever seen a video removing/reinstalling one of these? And what kind of carb is this? I cant find a parts diagram for the "Briggs 5 HP" engine on the tiller. Briggs usually has Model & Type numbers stamped on OHV covers, but this machine obviously doesn't have those.

Thanks again!!!

And of course I found the info stamped on the engine housing!
