These are all great points. Every time I see a posting about climate change or global warming, I think "what are the choices?", not "you ought to change this or that."

I'm concerned about the total environmental footprint of the batteries we use on small items (weed wackers, etc) and potentially on a 20-30 HP small tractor one day. The total picture has to be considered.

I liked the old Nova versus the new Nova comparison. Now, what are the other countries in the world doing about their tractors and weed wackers?

The latest atmospheric measurements of CO2 come in at 412 parts per million. This is the highest in more than several lifetimes, an increase of 47% since the start of the industrial revolution and 11% since the year 2000!

Carbon Dioxide functions like a Heat Blanket in the atmosphere, trapping sunlight energy and increasing the surface temperature of the Earth. This vast increase in the last twenty-four years is a direct result of increased combustion of fossil fuels....Oil and Coal.

Please tell me you hate this news, please tell me you don't believe in science but please listen. The audience of this forum is largely rural. Your interests should be aligned with a healthy environment and sustained ability of YOUR climate to support life as you wish it to be. The evidences of drought, elevated temperatures in many parts of the country, resulting fires and diminishing Glacial coverage at high elevations, more frequent and more intense Hurricanes striking the SE coast are not a hoax. All I, or anyone aware of the facts asks, is to please quit rebelling against improvements in how we conduct our operations. Look forward to vastly improved environmental tools and equipment and take pride, in taking part.
There is no way to know that. No one was testing parts per million of CO2 before the industrial revolution. And no, they can't tell from ice cores or tree cores. We're still in the warming phase coming out of the last ice age with still a way to go. In any case it's all good. More CO2 is good for plants. More rain is good. Milder winters is good.

Your facts are not correct
The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is going down not up
There are many studies out there that state this
There is less CO2 in the atmosphere than there was 100 years ago
Your so called climate change is nothing more than weather
In the 1970s it was going to be a mini ice age which did not happen
But you can believe what you want and state what facts( or lack of facts) you want

over population is the number 1 problem facing earth. (and all associated modernization to support that)

if you’re worried about it, stop using any modern invention.

watch primitive technology on youtube.

we humans will exterminate ourselves and the sun will eat the earth in 4 billion years anyway

Where I live (I dare say), the growing season is now longer by about 10 days in the Toronto area.
I do believe mankind pollutes too much, however I do like the longer summer and growing season.
So it is actually a plus here(selfish), but our government is definitely on board with reduction.

Until you write this in Chinese you're barking up the wrong tree. The US has some of the most restrictive emissions laws in the world along with some of the cleanest air and water. You're solar panels, windmills, and batteries are great but the raw material mining and manufacturing process to make these "green" systems creates more pollution than they save. I think this post is timed to the medias new push to pivot from the race war they are starting to a "climate disaster" with the end goal of destroying the middle class and putting us all under the control of global elites. Good luck with that.

When everyone preaching this crap to me sells their jets and yachts, I might listen. Bill Gates is wanting to tinker with the atmosphere to reflect sunlight, what could possibly go wrong? My issue with the science is that humans are terrible at making predictions, especially around complex systems like the atmosphere, understanding biology, and the economic machinery. You need to read some of Nassim Taleb's papers. The sample size being used is very tiny in comparison of the age of the earth. The sample size is great based on human terms but not billions of years. NASA's chart I pulled up covers 800,000 years, which is 0.02% of Earth's history.

Batteries still suck, I've been following rechargeable technology for 40 years new. They are better but batteries have a lot of downsides. For example, over this past winter in very mild North Alabama, my Hitachi batteries would barely power my reciprocating saw. I would love to have battery powered electrical everything, much less maintenance no doubt, but I also want a flying car.

I live on 20 acres, building my second ICF house which is extremely energy efficient. I drive a Prius as my daily driver, I have a 96 diesel F350 because none of my other vehicles will tow or haul anything. I also have several UTV's and tractors. I would love to have all battery equipment if they worked in all weather and were affordable.

If you want to save the earth, offer a comparable or better alternative, don't preach.

Nothing wrong with doing your part to protect the environment. Certainly nothing wrong with science. But science, contrary to that espoused by some, is never settled. I was alive in the 70’s when global cooling was the dominant issue of the time. 50 years later, it’s warming. Dietary guidelines changed a lot, as well. Many of the things we were cautioned against are now called beneficial. Changing the body we live in only affects the individual and can often be reversed within the lifetime of the individual. Our environment is not static and attempting to make it static could very well cause the very problem we are trying to prevent. The ramifications of being wrong will certainly not be corrected in a single lifetime, or perhaps in many. In 50 years, the science will almost certainly change as we learn more. But, allowing science to guide terraforming is folly. We have a very poor record of predicting the future, whether it be 5 minutes from now or 50 years. I went to bed on Sept 10th, 2001 with no clue as to what was going to happen the next day. I suspect it was the same for everyone else. Do your part to make the world a better place. I will join you in that.

Just my honest opinion. Feel free to differ.

Most definitely not Politics. Confusing basic science with politics is like confusing gravity with pizza. My sole purpose in this post was to present facts and stimulate thinking regarding selection and operation of various internal combustion tools. Nothing can or will change overnight. Consider the possibility of improvement, wherever possible, for you.
Never trust BS statistics from those with agendas.

OK, so do nothing if they don't? I'd bet the Chinese will be working on this shorty, unless they are totally demented. We need to be working on this problem, weather there is 100% world wide agreement or not.
