I have a case 1530b skidsteer. Older belt drive model with a 30 HP Wisconsin motor. I've always thought the main jet in the carb was wrong due to the fact that any more than an 1/8 of a turn out from seated, it ran to rich. I was spreading prossed gravel on the driveway yesterday. I had a little to much a little to high in the bucket and pulled back on both levers to quickly. The machine took a nose dive and almost threw me out of the cab. I got her back down on all fours pretty quickly. It imeadeatly started running horribly then sputtered and died. I gave it a little time to cool, changed my shorts and tried to restart about 20 minutes later. All it would do is cough and sputter. After a little diagnosis, I turned the main jet out 1 1/4 turns and she fired right up and purred like a kitten. I used it another 4 hours yesterday and another 2 hours today with no further problems. My question is, why would it all of a sudden need more fuel? I'm at a loss and wondering what you guys think. Has anyone had a similar experence? Oh BTW the carb was just cleaned and rebuilt about 2 months ago.

Was the carburetor leaking any gas?

Sometimes, the float gets bent or stuck and it doesn't block the passage that allows fuel into the bowl. If this happens, the bowl will overflow with fuel and sometimes find it's way into the engine making it flood or run rich.

If this was happening then the "jolt" forward when you almost flipped it could have loosened up the stuck float making it work properly which is why you needed to open the jet to a normal setting. This is just a guess as it's tough to tell without seeing it in person.

No it didn't leak any gas. The float hanging up could be a possibility. The carb has been apart 3 times in the 2 years I have owned it. Once when I first got the machine, once when a mechinc rebuilt the motor, and I took it apart about 2 months ago. Both times I did it I adjusted the float with the paper ruler that came with the rebuild kit. I'm at a loss with this problem.
