Cargo area protection for SUV's

You guys that keep sugesting the cabellas and BassPro premium liners must just keep missing the parts where he says its not the FLOOR he wants protected but the wheel wells and sides, IE the plastic or carpet that goes up the walls. It gets scratched by anything metal or plastic that touches it.

My bad. I see what the OP is sayin. I worked at Arlington Assembly where Yukons, Tahoes, and Escalades are built. The inner trim pieces are easily scratched.

Had the same problem with my 07 Pathfinder. I took a sheet of 1/2" plywood and cut it to fit (kept it square, not an exact fit around all of the contours). Then I covered it with black carpet from a local stereo shop, the stuff they use to cover custom sub woofer boxes. Then I took 2x4s, laid them on their side and boxed all around the perimeter of the plywood to stop anything from sliding around and scuffing up the sides on the interior. I carpeted them too before attaching to the plywood. It works great, looks good, cleans up good and removes easily. Also, the carpet acts to keep things from sliding around as much as the plastic floor did before.

Back seats folded down, a tarp and very careful loading have worked for me.:)

I use a 4X8 carpet remnant over the floor, and a pair of moving pads folded around the second row seats when those are folded forward. Nephews used my truck to haul 50 sheets of 4X8 OSB yesterday, too bad GM doesn't design the rear cargo areas an inch and a half wider, I would just make my own liner from 3/4 plywood but the wheelwell sides are too close together to permit any real thickness there.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions and input. Been working on a major roofing job all last week so have not been on TBN much.

You sure about that? I had a 99 that I sold last May but it only cost me $133 per year for insurance and actually lowered my other trucks insurance so in the end maybe $100. Plates were less than $50

Chris

Yes....PL & PD insurance here would be nearly $500 PER YEAR thru AAA and I have the absolute maximum premium discount (multi-car, over 60, no commuting, pleasure use only, less than 7500 miles a year, no tickets going back 30 years, homeowner insurance discount) and get this this, the statutory assessment for no-fault insurance here is currently $163 PER YEAR PER VEHICLE. Plates on even a beater truck would be another $75-100 a year.

Nope, cannot use a vehicle as a business deduction because of the current tax situation we have and I don't always charge what I should. (volunteer often for Habitat)

Buy a rubber stall mat at Tractor Supply, can't kill those things.

Yep. Those things are more than half an inch thick and protect the vehicle as well as being a non slip surface. Not expensive either.

Husky Liners. I like their cargo mats and floor mats. They're custom molded for each specific vehicle and are rugged as ****. I've got em in my Jeep Wrangler 4 door. Husky Linersョ - Floor Liners | Floor Mats | Car Floor Mats | Cargo Liners | Mud Flaps | Huskyliners.com

Best liner on the market. I have been using Huskey Liners for 11 years now. My only recommendation.

YUP, you got that exactly...cargo area floor is easy to protect, it's the VERTICAL areas that are hard to shield. It is a huge PIB to protect the second row seating door interiors especially when I carry a lot of power tools and 5 gallon pails in that area. A drop in liner would be wonderful.

I had the husky mats and was not impressed. I ended up going with the weather tech mats and they have been great....
