That respect goes both ways....would you also give up your right to for them to search your vehicle without cause, or warrant ? Not me. You give up your rights now, later they will take your rights away. Use them or lose them

Agreed 100%.

I've had cops try to search my old car. It was late, it was a real nice car with tinted windows. They asked me to step out, I did, however I closed the windows and locked the doors as I stepped out.

I did not have a firearm at the time. They were insistent that since I closed windows and locked doors, I must be hiding something. We did a sobriety test, of course I passed. We did another, again I passed. We did a third, passed. I could have gone all night, until they asked me to recite the alphabet backward. Haha, I never could do that. I asked one of the officers to do it, he couldn't either.

They asked to search, I said no. They asked for my keys, I said no. I was very respectful, they both got an attitude with me. I told them if they wanted to search my vehicle, please obtain a warrant. They made me stand on the side of the road, leaning on my car for about 40 minutes, then finally just let me go.

Some people don't understand that respect has to be earned. Otherwise it is meaningless and just obedience to authority. And too many cops unfortunately go berserk when you don't bow down to their authority.

If it was me, in the states, I would NOT divulge a legal weapon. Only because, I am sure some cops have no issue with citizens carrying sidearms, but some do, and those may give you a hard time. So to me, the odds better are in your favor of not getting hassled (or detained) if you don't fess up unnecessarily.

"until they asked me to recite the alphabet backward"

I once made the mistake of responding to that test : "Officer, I can't do that even when I haven't been drinking". My honest (stupidity) resulted in 3 1/2 hours "time served" drinking coffee at the local 24 hour diner.

that's right. if you are willing to freely to give up your rights. You will soon lose those those rights that so many have fought for.
You can be respectable , and not up your rights under the U.S .Constitution.

Our State motto is. ''We dare defend our rights ''

Had a similar situation once in college. Friend let me borrow his car to take another friend to Michigan (my home state) to visit his dad, then I was going across the state to visit relatives, then back, etc. Friend's car was a small BMW with tinted windows and he was from Florida. Rolled in Kalamazoo about midnight. Stopped at a gas station to fuel up, then was going to drop friend off, spend the night and head to see my family.

Had cops drive by while I was at gas station a couple times (was really dead in the city as it was a weeknight). As soon as I pulled back onto road, they pulled me over. Said a license plate light was out (one actually was, but it had two; one on each side). Asked all kinds of questions about what I'm doing there, etc. Wanted to search car. Told them no, I'm not doing anything wrong and please give me citation and let me go or whatever. Had no reason to search car. Told me I must be hiding something. Told them I wasn't, and they have no reason to harass me. I don't do drugs, don't drink, etc. Said it was suspicious that I had a FL tag, SC drivers license, but was in MI. Told them I was visiting relatives in my home town in my home state and so was my buddy who was from Kalamazoo, etc, and that we both attended a Christian college and borrowed car from friend.

Didn't seem to matter to them. They went on for about 20-30 minutes or more pressing me about searching the car and I told them no repeatedly and that they were harassing me for no reason. Asked them was it a crime to be visiting relatives. Told them I know I have rights and they need a warrant or probable cause to inconvenience me like this and after getting nowhere, I finally asked them to call their supervisor because I wanted to talk to him about this harassment. They literally gave me my license back, didn't even issue a warning and left.

Ridiculous.

I have had some good officers and some real jerks pull me over through the years. I respect them and the job they do, and if I had a CCW (which I plan to do at some point), I would tell them that I am carrying, etc, but I won't be bullied around by public servants either just because they have a badge and gun.

In my experience, there are 2 kinds of officers. 1 is the kind that really want to serve their communities and are the best of humanity. The others are the kind that got beat up or picked on in HS and want a badge and gun and have a Napoleon complex. They ruin it for the first group and are more of a detriment in many cases. And my dad was a cop and EMT when I was young.

Thanks; good to know this. Hopefully at some time in the future we'll get a national concealed carry law.

Well, that's not bad, but I'd really rather just see the 2A respected as it is written. I don't need a license to exercise my 1A rights. I can't think of any good reason why I should need one for my 2A rights.

Don't tell the officer you have a gun. That can be perceived as a threat. Tell the officer you have a permit (whatever your permit is called, they are different in different states) and that you are armed.

Last time I was pulled over, I don't think the guy even had a ticket book since he said he doesn't do traffic enforcement. He was in plain clothes but was in a patrol car. From what he said he must have thought that I was challenging his authority by driving so fast right in front of him, and he basically pulled me over so the other drivers wouldn't think that he wasn't doing his job. I wasn't even going as fast as he thought I was.

Can a carry permit be used for ID for air travel to board plane? I temporarily lost Driver License while traveling. I was lucky, Hotel security had
my license. Person who found it gave it to security. Didn't need second ID, just wondered if carry would work? It is government ID. Also, I might
call airline to ask. Of course, CCW might raise many questions with airport employees?? Who knows?

Cheers. Coffeeman

My understanding is TSA requires a government issued ID that has a photo and expiration date. Beyond that it's Google time

Here's my opinion.

When LEO calls in his tag, and a CWP comes up, the LEO knows the person had to pass a background check at a minimum.
