Carry permit. Would traffic stop make police be more cautious? yea or nay?

A lawyer confirmed to me that ALL vehicles have to obey stops and red lights.
The difference is that LEO's and emergency vehicles are tolerated and there is no tolerance for a civilian even on a totally deserted highway.
Its the LAW!.

Changing subject a little, as far as I know "tolerated" as in bicycles not obeying traffic laws does not make their actions of running red lights, lane violations, etc. "legal". Opinions?

Hi all,

I have a grandson who went for his carry permit on his 21st birthday. Thinking about, I wondered if having permit, would cause extreme caution during traffic stop. On the other hand maybe police might look favorably at driver if they had a permit. I am assuming on traffic stop the on board police computer may inform ,from license tag, a brief history of the driver who owns license plate. In past grandson was stopped once and police asked for his hunting rifle. Officer took it back to his car for a few minutes, checked it out and brought it back. Interestingly , he was issued a warning for for some small infraction. He is 22 and considering going to school for police work. He has considered State Police, but he has an arm tattoo and that is a knock out in my state...
Since your profile does not say what state you live in nor do you specify in the thread, most of the advice you will get is probably wrong.

Some states require you to disclose, some dont.
Some states have different rules for vehicle carry depending on whether or not you have a concealed carry permit.
Some officers want to know if you are carrying and some dont consider it relevant to a traffic stop.
Some officers will disarm you, some wont. Taking a hunting rifle out of the car is unusual anywhere.
In most states, the computer will show you have a permit, if they issue permits.
If you are DWB, in many places in America you are probably going to be treated differently

Personally, if I were a LEO I’d want to know, so I always disclose.

So I take it that you will fix my car and or pay my tickets?

Not after you said these statements.

snip,
I will tell you that I now NEVER move for any siren or any emergency vehicle !

snip,
Nope, whoop, holler, play siren all U want, I don't move any more!

I have just one comment. The law says that you do not run a red light, and (b) the law says that you yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle. If I have to go through a red light (done cautiously and safely) to allow an ambulance or a police car through, I will do it. The law is supposed to be very understanding when you have conflicting requirements. In other words, how can it be Constitutionally acceptable to require two mutually exclusive things? I say comply with the requirement that is the most protective of life and property. I will proudly present that to a judge any day.

How do we convince people with this attitude that it is unacceptable in a civil society?

Take the bad police officers and make a pretty BIG example out of them.

That's what's unacceptable in a civilized society.. abuse of power.

Fix the top.. the bottom will fall into place.

It's folly to accept bad cops, but scorn bad civilians. It's inequality.. inequality breeds contempt.

'Serve the public trust'

Those are big words. If they aren't happening.. then there is no 'public trust'.

And yes, I know.. it's a small percentage of LEO that is bad, but that small percent spoils the outlook of the entire bunch.

Put a tablespoon of diesel into 10 gallons of drinking water... pretty dilute huh? taste it... Doesn't take but a small percentage to ruin the batch.

First step to solving this problem is to destroy the blue wall. When a leo turns a shoulder and protects another that is doing something he shouldn't be.. that means you have 2 bad LEO, not one.. even if the second one's error is an error of omission, and not an otherwise overt illegal or immoral act.

Second step, Make it a pretty awful and stigmatizing punishment. Make a list, put them on a list. Make them register when they move. Make it so they can't hold positions of authority or trust.. since they abuse their 'powers' when they do so. Heck, I think a red leg cuff might be a good idea. Tells people.. hey, I was a bad cop and did bad things to people that trusted me.. I took advantage of them.. I thought my badge made me god.... Yellow cuff could mean ' I sat by and didn't do my duty to protect people that trusted me, by not stopping another bad leo that was abusing his position... I just sat by and did nothing. Heck.. you could have a rainbow. I stold stuff from the evidence room. I falsified evidence, I'm one of those cops that beat people up when they didn't need it. The possibilities are endless.

That's the answer.. make the punishment bad enough that either you won't risk it, or that if you see it, you won't help the offender.

Now.. once you KNOW you won't get a ticket for safely, moving out of the way of an emergency vehicle... the problem is solved.

A cop that steals enough cocaine from the evidence locker is no longer a cop. They usually become politicians. :)

It seemed to me, that if you were a bad enough cop, you got promoted out of the field and into management.

But I agree with you that there isn't much worse than a cop that uses his or her power to abuse the people they work for.

.....and that makes you a hypocrite.

I must have heard you wrong, did you say that impeding the travel of our first responders is a good thing? That is the only thing I am talking about. Everyone must move over so the emergency personnel can do their job.

Piloon was was beat up and spit out by the cops and courts, they were wrong to do that to him. He has every right to be upset, I think we all would feel like he does. But to refuse to clear a path for an emergency vehicle is the wrong thing to do.

When it's defacto illegal to get out of the way, you have a problem.

Chiding someone for one thing, and then not doing something about the reason makes you part of the problem.

IE.. you can't badger Piloon if you are not willing to take action to stop what CAUSED his reaction.

When you are ready to take up the legal challange of re-opening, and overturning his ticket.. we can talk.

The best thing anyone can do is follow LEO instruction and inform the officer they have a CWP and either have a weapon or not at the time being pulled over.

Yep, while holding both hands out the window and explaining in detail exactly where the weapon is if onboard. Especially in Missouri where it's legal to carry without a permit.
