Case 580K frozen bucket pins

It's OUT.....lol.

Here's the setup. Finally moved up to a 30 Ton in the middle......with jacks on the ends to provide support.

Once I put the pressure on with the 30 Ton, we heated the living beejeezus out of the ends of the bushing support/arm.

Then BANG....she moved....more pressure.......another BANG......at one point she was saying 'Please....I'll be good.....I think I can take grease now'.......but I ignored her prostrations and kept going.......lol

Once the jack was bottomed, I used some impact sockets to push the pin more....and kept feeding her sockets until the pin was out.

We did do the heating of the ends of the pin to pretty much glowing red and quenching with water....4 or so times.

And it turns out the pin was so frozen the bushings actually were moved.........so now I have to remove the bushings, and reinsert them so they're in the right position.....on the ends, instead of pushed together on one end.

More Fun.

Btw.....the pictures are in reverse order......start at the bottom.

I cut mine off with a corded sawzall. Then getting out the individual pieces was no big deal and the new pin was not terribly expensive.

EDIT: I made a giant assumption that you were dealing with backhoe bucket pins. That I guess might change things.

There are always more than one way to "skin a cat". Good that you both were successful.

Don't you just love a happy ending particularly after some very tough going! :dance1:

I had a fun time on my 580k taking the pin out for the quick coupler for the backhoe bucket. It has a bushing that it pivots on that's hollow that an inner pin goes through that the bucket pivots on. The inner pin was easy to get out but the outer bushing was ****. I ended up buying a large bolt, maybe 1 1/4" that was long enough so I could put pressure on the pin. With it as tight as I could get and a 20lb sledge I finally got it but it took days. All because someone used one of the two holes (the more power/ less stroke) to connect a chain and broke the coupler.
