For those prices, I wouldn't go with either tractor. I'd buy a new one with better financing and fresh factory warranty.

I really don't think she should go for the $25,000 tractor at this time,
If I did look into buying a new L3901 what should I expect to pay for tractor and loader?

I'm not suggesting buying the same machine new for $25k...I'm saying that that same money can be spent on a new machine.

Some die hard NH/Case fans complain about the switch to LS, but that complaint isn't fair. The LS builds are good tractors.
If the OP wants blue paint, a new LS xr3032 or xr3037 can be had for about that same price, with new 5yr warranty. Features wise, it would be on par or higher than the used Case. Or, they can find a new LS G3033/38 for even less, with features on par to the Kubota L.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the used tractors the OP is considering, they're fine. But I wouldn't pay that much for a potentially 10yr old tractor with 1000 hrs, or a newer used Kubota, unless the savings was considerably more than the cost of a good new tractor.

Paine, A agree with the posters here that Kubota is hard to beat for parts availability, but you made a comment that makes me lean towards the Case.

You seem to be comfortable with the dealer and he is close to your house. Like most of you, I do more and more online including ordering parts online and researching how to do repairs. But there is a certain comfort in knowing that I can go down to the local dealer and talk to a live person who is performing the same repair on a regular basis and ask for advice. And there is a certain comfort in knowing that that if a repair is over my head, there is a dealer nearby who knows me and is happy to work on my tractor in those cases.

Maybe it's because I own older iron, but it means a lot to have that backup if you ever need it.

Well just got off the phone with a second Kubota dealer and he confirms that a L2901 w/ loader will run me right around $25,500 after tax. That will run me $10k more then the used Case that is "Like new" with 1000 hours. And the Case is minus all the DEF bull crap that is likely causing the high price.

$8000 more then the L3800 which is also DEF free, does the 3800 have any emissions bull on it? I would guess at least an EGR.

I have an L3200, the L3800 with six less horsepower. I bought it because it did not have the burner exhaust and was not a DEF engine. The newer models are fine but if the Tier 4 parts break, they are spendy. I use it on all sorts of projects and have got about 40 hours on it in the last year. It is awesome, no complaints other than the PTO hydraulics are a little hitchy and I dislike that a bit.

I don't have a single complaint with the Kubota. Buy the L3800 and don't look back.

I think you're missing my point, but that's ok. Good luck with the purchase

I believe your are suggesting that I look into the cheaper Korean made units? I did and while they have impressive specs I see them lacking in build quality and just not the same as the Japanese units. Personally I would buy American made if they were available but the Japanese have been in the game for some time. That said Kubota would be my first choose but the Case/Shibaura is a close second!

If that's not your point.... Then yes I missed it. Thanks for the input either way!

No prob. Did you look at ALL the Korean units? There's good offerings from Kioti, LS, and TYM ... obviously Kioti is well established and is a good unit as well.

Also, if you're sticking with Japanese (which I have no problem with, I run a Japanese tractor myself...) be sure to check out the other Japanese tractors as well. Massey tractors in these sizes are built by Iseki, and personally, I feel the Massey units are a hair better in quality over the Kubota units, my opinion. Also, Yanmar (who used to build Deere tractors and engines) are selling tractors again under their name (or as Cub Cadet Yanmar, depending on the year) and people seem to be happy with them.

If you end up with Kubota, I have no issues with it! They're fine. But weigh your options appropriately. Practically every tractor maker out there now makes solid tractors. Don't get stuck on any name brand because of familiarity...

And again, buying used is fine, but the savings better be dramatic in my book. A warranty is worth a LOT of money if used. No tractor brand is immune from problems. My buddy had bought two brand new Kubotas in the last 4 years, and both of them have needed warranty work, including a big one (small issue, but tractor needed to be split for the fix). That doesn't mean Kubota doesn't make a good product, because they do ... it just shows that even the ever heralded Kubota can be imperfect, like any other brand.

Obviously every warranty runs out eventually, but they are sure nice to have while you're making payments.

I should elaborate too, I'm not against buying used. All of my vehicles are used. But as an example... I needed a bigger truck for my business and an F450 flatbed fit the needs. To purchase my truck new would have cost about $55k-$60k. I found a great deal and literally saved over $30,000. Granted, no warranty, but I can replace the engine and trans several times over for the savings.

So, in my opinion, buying used vs new is all about the difference in amount saved vs the likelyhood of money I'll need to spend (on potential would-be warranty repairs) along with the difference in resale added in.

In the size range you're considering, I just think the offerings you're looking at are too highly priced compared to what's available on the market, and I only say that because you sounds like you're trying to stay within a certain budget. If I were trying to stay in a budget, is try to get the most product possible within my price range. That's me though.

But if you like that Case, and you can get it for like $13k I'd be all over it. And I wouldn't be concerned with the hours (I'm on pace to put 450 hrs this year on my tractor) as much as I would with the age. Time causes things to fail, belts, hoses, gaskets, tires, electrical connections, etc etc etc. Just something to consider.
