can cat. 1 implements be converted to cat.2 tractor. or do i change the tractor to cat. 1? i'm looking at two tractors, one cat.1 and one cat. 2.
With the proper bushings, Cat1 implements can be made compatible with Cat2 lifts. BUT. Cat1 implements are not designed to stand up to the power that can be delivered by Cat2 tractors.can cat. 1 implements be converted to cat.2 tractor.

You can go from cat 1 impliments to cat 2 with bushings that they sell.
I think it is the other way around. The Cat 2 implement has larger pins, both in diameter and length. Bushings are available to allow Cat 1 pins, of the correct length to attach a Cat 2 implement to a Cat 1 three point hitch.
Most of the time ,not all ,this will not work. The distance between the flange on cat 1 is 27 in. on cat 2 it is 33 in., the distance between the center of the lower pins to the center of the top link pin is cat1 18in. cat 2 24in. The threaded shaft of cat lower pins is larger as is top link pin diameter. This is per ISO730/1 standards. Not all equipment follows standards ,I have some that dosent and it is almost new. Some if my cat 2 eguipment , I have modified to work on the cat 1 tractor, if the tractor will handle it. ScrapironfordYou can also buy Cat 1 and Cat 2 pins. Just use a wrench take off the one you don't want to use and put your new pins in the implement. I think they cost me about five or six bucks down at Agpro.

John Deere specs it as a Cat 2/1. http://www.deere.com/specsapp/Custo...03 Utility Tractor (56 hp)&tM=FR&pNbr=5203 LVA dumb question, but how does one determine whether he has a Cat 1 hitch, or Cat 2? I have anewly acquired but not new (2006) JD 5203. tks
John Deere specs it as a Cat 2/1. Product Specification for 5203 Utility Tractor (56 hp)
To me, that means Cat 2 lower lift arms, Cat 1 toplink. If in doubt:
Cat 1 lift arms accept 7/8" diameter lift pins
Cat 1 toplinks accept 3/4" diameter implement pins
Cat 2 lift arms accept 1-1/8" diameter lift pins
Cat 2 toplinks accept 1" diameter implement pins
Hopefully a 5203 owner will chime in here and confirm or deny my SWAG about that Cat 2/1 spec.
