The hose that I'm dealing with feels like it has wire spring in it like a radiator hose.

Could not get the hyd. oil pumped out.(too cold) I unclamped the lower end of hose and took my chances that the oil would not come gushing out. It was not too bad. I was able to stuff a rag in it to slow the oil flow. Cut the bad spot out of hose and then slid a 1-1/2 inch copper plumbing coupler inside the hose to use as a stiffner. Put 2 stainless hose clamps on and it should be ready to go after I refill with oil.

Thanks again for all who made suggestions!

That is exactly what a suction hose has woven into it.

Splicing it did not work. I'll be going to the Cat dealer tomorrow for the hose. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to bend myself into a pretzel to get the upper end off.

Just ask the Cat dealer what they will charge to come change it for you and I'll bet you can figure a way to change it pretty quick.

You can hook a shop vac to the hydraulic fill to create a suction/vaccume effect, you'll hardly lose a drop, sounds strange but it works like a charm. I've done it on my excavator and dozer, but not on my 287 yet, it should work though, just try to get a good seal at the fill neck

Getting a CAT mechanic to fix it is out. I would not want to even pay the travel time. I forget what their rate is? That would be a last resort.I have a couple of heavy equipment machanics I know from working different jobs that I could get if I can't get it myself. I just have to give it a long cussing and eventually I get the job done. I was able to access it thru the small belly plate cover. PITA though. I guess anymore anything you have to work on is tough. Auto, tractor or equipment.
Thanks to everyone that gave suggestions.
