cattle fencing allowing for wildlife

You don't need to worry, the wildlife will find a way in your property.

I have barb wire on about 1 1/2 acres for some goats and a pony, and have the wire at least chest high, the deer jump over it all the time and i find hair on the wire where they have went through it.

My front yard is little over 3 acres and i have chain link around it,the
chain link is 4ft. fence but is of the ground 1 1/2in. so it is easy to run a weed eater around it.

We have deer jump our chain link all the time, we saw a doe with a fawn come running and the doe jumped the fence, went through the
yard and jumped the fence on the other side of the yard. but the fawn went under the fence and couldn't get back to it's mom, i put the fawn on the outside of the fence but the doe would never come back.

I tried for two days but the doe would never come back, then i noticed that a doe had been hit by a car on the main road, so the i figured it was the mom to the fawn.

I called the game warden and they said leave the fawn alone, it had
nothing to eat for over two days, couldn't even stand up because it was so weak, one of my goats had a 3-month old baby so i got milk and started bottle feeding the fawn, i would feed it then let it back out of the fence, i took care of it for 4 months and it would follow us around.

I started feeding the baby deer apples, peaches and would take it to
the garden and feed it corn, tomatoes and cucumbers. Since it was eating better, i decided to take it up in the mountains and turn it loose, where there was a lot of acorn trees and away from any houses.

So the wildlife will find a way in on your property, even if you put up a 6 FT. fence, (so don't worry about it and get some sleep)

Here is a picture of the fawn after i started feeding it everyday.

One park in the Northern VA area had to put in a ten foot high chain link fence to keep the deer out because they were eating all of the plants in the flower gardens. Even with that fence they would occasionally get a deer in and have to have a round up to chase it back out a gate. So the wildlife will find a way in if they want to.

I've seen a 1500 lb cow jump a cattle fence.

Unless the wildlife is buffalo (they go through cattle fence) I wouldn't bat an eye at putting it up. I wish my cattle fence would stop some wildlife.

The current way it is done here for barb wire is that the lower strad must be more than 12 in above ground and be smooth non barb wire to allow smaller animals to go thr the fence.

This was what my wifes grandpa always did on his ranches. He used to say it was the strand for the fawns.

:)

I have seen 1500 lb cows walk through some of my fence. :)

Then there was that one bull......

I remember someone saying "Don't worry...there are two sets of fence between us and......."

:) :)

I start my first wire between 16 and 18 inches off the ground and a 12 inch gap between the top wire and the next wire down.

This allows the deer to go under or over without the chance of getting hung up.

The first wire allows the rutting buck thats beat up pretty bad to crawl under and not risk jumping over if he's hurt.

The doe and fawn can go easily under the wire.

The gap at the top allows the bucks and does a chance to get a leg loose thats been hung up.

I have been kicked trying to get a doe's leg loose on the top wire and I really hate seeing deer hung up that have been eaten alive by dogs and other critters because they can't get loose.

The cows eat under the fence but thats what cows do.;)

On monday we went out to meet some elephants that we plan to use in an upcoming movie. Very, very cool (these are the moments I love my job). But if you can see in the photo, the fence... It is made of 10" pipe, it is 10 feet high and circles 4 - 1/3 acre pens. The gates are Massive, huge hinges but swing so easy the 100 lb trainer had no problems. The pipes go down 6 feet. I asked the owner how long it took to make it and how much it cost, he wouldn't say but he did it more or less himself (and his labor team) and it made me thankful for the simple redwood fence I am mulling putting up.

allow the deer ?? jeez. I'm looking at 6'-8' field fence on the perimeter of my 40 acres to keep the pests out. Can't have a garden or a flower bed even next to the house. The blasted pests eat everything that is green in color this time of year. They have eaten all the evergreen/spruce/honeysuckle/slash pine/aborvitae/Scottish pine/etc. My neighbor tried a 6' fence around his garden spot but adult deer have no problems flat footin' it over. Some moron had a canned wild hog hunt 6 mile south of me on 160 acres. Now we have ferrel hog problems which is the reason I'm looking at 10ga field fence on the perimeter. Some of these boars are running 400-450 lbs and they will tear up a 1/4" welded wire panel enclosure or go under or over. We have misguided folks out here feeding the deer and hogs (city folks just moved to the country) such as my new neighbor. His wife is complaining she can't have a flower bed anywhere. To much of the wrong wildlife ain't good.
