Seon,

Maybe they aren't yellow jackets? There are lots of kinds of wasps & the pheromone in the YJ traps only attracts yellow jackets.

Here's a pic of one building a nest in my tool box.

We msut ahve lazy ones in france. And when we get stung it really isn't that bad. I was so excited to read the original reminder thread, now is the time to get the queens that I ran out and bought 3 traps but unfortunately could not get any attractant at a local very large garden store. put it up thursday baited one with beer and one with syrup and all i caught was 1 fly. I will be at our US home over Mother's day and will pick up some Rescue attracant. i bought a spray and as they fly in my area I spray them. We are in a warm climate so probably i am to late to get the queens.

The Rescue instructions reads "place meat in the meat spikes in the bottom cap with turkey ham, ham, bratwurst, BBQ meats and fish.

You can contact them at www.rescue.com

Podunkadunk,

Next time, don't light the gas. The fumes will kill them all.

Rox: Are you sure you have yellowjackets in France? Before you spend your money, call the Rescue folks and ask for their advice. They are very friendly and helpful.

Pilot, I ahve no idea if these are yellow jackets or wasps. i knwo they are not bees. And i am mildly optimistic that perhaps I did in fact get queens because I got about fr of them with the hand spray botle and now I ahve not seen any at all around. So hey maybe these were teh queens after all.

i don't think i'll contact rescue with any questions jsut in case the product is not legal in France. i woudl rather not know. I'll sjut buy some andsee how it works. Also will get their fly traps as we do get a lot of flys especially during the harvest season in november and december.

Here in UCLA (Upper Corner of Lower Alabama) they say to use diesel rather than gas and to not light it. The fumes last longer and soak into the ground to kill more of them.

Did pretty good this year! Put 3 traps out April Fooz day. Took to refreshing the pheromone(sp) Friday ... appeared to be no activity ... the last one I grabbed had 2 on the back side that I couldn't while driving by on my normal patrols. Today, I inspected again ... 1 more. Put 4th trap out beyond the productive one. Pic attached ... to me, they look twice as big as the normal hillbilly worker meatbees around here. Not particularly afraid of them but do give them the opportunity to NOT torque me off when I feel that's an appropriate measure for the circumstances

Once they have been in the trap for a couple of days they start dehydrating and don't look as impressive size wise. Once you have 4 or 5 of the SOB's coming after you nailing front and rear (their mouths and bum) you get a bit anxious everytime you see a cluster of them near the ground.

Ok, that's the difference then: In 27 years of messing w/ them in this part of Kaulifornia, I've never seen them in a ground pack of less than a few dozen. I'll steer clear of a group of 4 or 5, if I ever see one.

Behold #4. I believe this puts me in the lead, with podunkadunk running a close second, and rat making a valiant effort :D
