Caught in the act

That's a good cat you got there. I love it when they do what they're suppose to do. I don't like rodents of any kind. They're such a pain. The other day there was a noise coming from the wall. Something was in. Sounded like a rodent of some kind. Whatever it was, was screaming at the top of its lungs. The star hunter (she was a stray herself), was sitting by the wall. She wanted whatever was inside! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It looks like Abby is part Maine Coon Cat. We had one, Muffy, for 21 years. Still miss her. Currently catless. Between cats we agreed to "temporairly" take care of the niece's Goffin's Cockatoo. The bird and a cat are incompatable, at least from the birds point of view. A cat would probably be overjoyed. The bird is a real character and a lot of fun but does zip for a mouse problem. When I get my shop space set I'll look for a shop cat.

Wow, did a goggle search for pictures of Main Coon Cat and you are right. We thought she was just a mutt tabby wanna-be.

Bob sometimes I think cats have a weird sense of humor tormenting rodents till they have a heart attack. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The wife and I are both allergic to them so we can't have a cat. But I can tell you that this summer we were plagued with chipmunks. All of a sudden we didn't see anymore and couldn't figure out why until my dogs spotted a wandering cat on the property. Now we put out cat food every day in exchange for the cat taking care of the pesky chipmunks. The trade really works well for us both.

For some reason chipmunks really get cats going. I think it is because they are big enough to be a challenge and they have very herky jerky movements which catch a cat's eye.

I have had cats my entire life - some are good hunters - some aren't. Cat's that have been strays tend to be more efficient hunters in that they don't 'play' with their prey before doing them in. I had a cat for a while that at his biggest was about 22 pounds - he had been a stray for a year or two when I got him and he was more like a wild animal when it came to hunting. If there was something he was after he went after it and killed it right there.

For somebody who is used to dogs cats might seem as if they are not very affectionate. That changes if you spend time with them and they trust you. Our current cats wait in the window for us to come home, follow us around the house, know when it is time to go to bed - and let us know if we are late, and will follow us around the yard if we are outside.

Now you've gone and ruined her. She'll probably never catch another mouse. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

She'll think, "Hey, the last time I put one of these things in my mouth, I kept seeing bright spots in front of my eyes."

Cats are like that, you know. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

GOOD Kitty Kitty!
I remember growing up in the country on a lake and our cat used to half kill a mouse and bring it back for her kittens. The mom taught all the litters how to hunt.

I kind of grossed me out when I was a kid to see the pathetic mouse in the center of all those kittens, but after a while I came to appreciate the nurture aspect of the act, the nutering of the mother cat to the kittens. Year after year the cat did this with her kittens....

I agree. Cats can be very companionable. My cat lives in my workshop and can't come upstairs because others in the family are allergic. ...He makes a good "shop assistant" though. ...always willing to help me line up a straight edge or nudge the scribe over a bit if I haven't set it right. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

He can sleep through any running machinery, but the minute I turn the power tools off to do some delicate measuring, he's "up and about." /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice looking ***** you got there!

Looks very close to my Bootsy. Nick named her Squirrel cause her tail is always poofed out like she stuck her paw in a light socket.
