Caution: Tractors are Very Dangerous

/ Caution: Tractors are Very Dangerous #41
All I can say is everyone out there needs to pay attention 110% of the time. Those photos will instill safety in me for the remainder of my life you can bet on that.

After seeing the photos, I don't think you can possibly have enough safety or safeguards in place. Switches fail, sometimes they are innocently "bypassed" for whatever reason or to save a few moments of precious time. I say when you're gone, you're a long time gone.

I'm still going to be purchasing a tractor but I'll be looking with an added eye towards safety.

Thanks for opening everyone's eyes....I think it should be mandatory reading for anyone contemplating a tractor purchase.

My heart goes out to the friends & families of the victims.

( STRONGER WARNING: VERY VERY GRAPHIC!!!

If you can't stomach seeing people torn to pieces.. don't go the web site! Def. not for children.

Sometimes knowing what is possible.. will make you a safer operator. Seeing this stuff will scare the crap out of you! Be safe.. take your time.. follow the safety guidelines. If your leaving the tractor's seat.. shut it all down! God bless those poor people. )

I agree that it is graphic but I may disagreee a bit that children should not see it simply for shock value and a learning lesson.
When I was seven my dad harvested a deer, I was always with him so naturally when he was butchering it in the garage he cut off a leg and we went to each tool in the shop. He showed how strong the deer leg was, then cut through it with his radial arm saw, a circular saw, bandsaw, etc etc... you get the idea. He instilled into my head that it will cut stuff like fingers etc. Two weeks later we were cutting firewood on a Sunday afternoon, I don't remember all the details but he slicd his arm open with his chainsaw and while he held pressure on it I drove the 3-wheeler back to the house so mom could take him to the emergency room.

I have a nephew that is 10, he will probably see that web page next time he is at my house so that he sees what farm machinery can do. Those pics were graphic but it wasn't much worse than half of the TV show ER, and he watches that all the time.

While on the subject how does one safely ride on the tractor with a youth to teach them how to operate it (with or without equipment) when there is no instructor seat?

Hello I am new to this site, never owned or driven a tractor and I just recently purchased a used compact kubota. I haven't pick it up yet but I have spent the last three nights educating myself not only on the equipment, its use but more importantly the safety aspects involved in operating a tractor, all though a small one but the safety rules still apply.

This post really hit home with me that I can't be too cautious no matter the situation. I promised my wife that I would not do anything stupid with my new tool and believe me after doing a lot of reading here I guarantee that I won't and become a statistic. Still got a lot more self education to do before I set foot in my newest tool and not a toy.

Thanks for the post and BTW a real nice board with a wealth of information.

Regards,

Mike, welcome to TBN! Boy, did you start with a serious thread! Good thing I guess - I urge you to always remember this thread as you're ENJOYING your tractor, respecting it, but not fearing it. Baby steps, and never let familiarity lead to complacency. And when in doubt, just do whatever 5030, Henro, Skypup, or Bird say to do. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (Plus about 500 other smart guys - you'll know them when you see them) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And here are some other very good threads:

Front end loaders dangerous

Another tractor fatality

Do you wear your seat belt on your tractor?

Rolled my new BX23 on its side this weekend!

ROPS, U.S. fatality rates, Swedish study

Again, welcome to TBN - boy, did you come to the right place. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome to Tractorbynet. Now if you succeed in never doing anything stupid, you'll be a very unusual person 'cause I think most of us have done a few stupid things. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif The lucky ones survived and learned. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif But it sounds like you're going about it right way. If you've never used a tractor before, just go slow and easy at first. Tractors in general, and small ones in particular, are less stable than expected, or at least they were for me.
