I was told by the dealer the other day that CC has a fix for 60" decks/belly mowers. They fixed the idle pulley arm or something. I asked him why CC didn't contact me about this, as the belly mower was fixed multiple times by them while under warranty. He didn't have an answer.

I can't begin to tell anyone how many problems I have had with the belly mower. I don't think I will ever own one again. Next time it will be a 6-7 ft RFM.

Hey PA,
I've had great luck with my 60 belly mower but I have heard about a lot of problems with them throwing belts.
Mine has done that once in three years but it also has an upgrade that added another idler, maybe that's the fix?

If you search though my posts, I put a picture up of the idler I'm referring to.

I went through about 40 of your posts, and only saw a pic of a boot on your deck, as well as your tractor lineup from 2005. Did you have a pic of the new spindle/idler arm pulley?

Appreciate the help. My dealer ordered the part, and wants my whole tractor in the shop, not just the mmm. I have 8 acres that I keep about 2 inch high, and it is growing and growing. Guess I'll be spending a whole saturday getting it knocked back down. Hate cutting the same grass twice or more in a day.

Here you go, took me a while to find them.

First, thanks for the pics, but two questions.

1. Did you install those thumb screws on the cover plates on your deck? If you did, good idea. Wish I had thought about that.

2. I think that may be the wrong side of the deck. The idle pulley arm has the spring that connects to the bolt, and rotates over as tension is put on it. Unless of course they did away with the idle arm, which would make sense since the belts fly off of it regularly. I had a personal fix for it for awhile, I used a spring with less tension, that was longer, it worked for about 14 hours straight. Then the spring broke. At least it wasn't a $10 cub spring.

I can't take credit for the thumbscrews, they were on the deck when I bought it.

I believe all the other components of the deck are the same, but the pulley pictured wasn't on some early 60" decks. It appears to limit the travel on the long run between the outside pulleys.

I'b be happy to pop those covers and take some better pictures if you think that might help.

Just let me know.

I don't want to bother you, but it has been over a week since my dealer told me he ordered the part. If he doesn't get back to me soon, I may need those pics so I can reengineer mine. He takes his time, but my grass keeps growing.

I will be putting those thumb screws on my deck as soon as I can find them. I can't tell you how many times I have taken off the covers to put the belt back on or replace the spring or the bolt for the idler arm. ****, I took em off and left them off the last time, which doesn't concern me too much, but my kid sometimes runs through the field to jump on the tractor.

I take it by your replies you haven't experienced the belt issue.

wow this is a touchy board, i didn't know the opposite of heaven would get asterisks. Didn't want someone thinking i was dropping f bombs.

Well, the saga continues....

I called the dealer last week, and asked if he got the parts in. He said that he did get the parts in, and that I needed to bring the mower deck in, because CC wouldn't reimburse them for bringing the whole tractor in. So, I take the 60" deck in on saturday, and today I called them to see if I could pick it up. He told me that he got CC to work with me and supply a new belt for the deck, while they were doing the upgrade. I thought, gee that is great, your deck keeps breaking and I can't cut grass, but you will buck up for the belt. Golly gee thanks CC.

Anywho, I get it home, unload it from pickup bed, re attach it, fire it up, sounds awful. take it all back off, reinspect everything, reattach it, fire it up, doesn't sound great but it is functioning. I set the deck level fairly high, because the grass is high, and take off. I make a few passes and it sounds like it is kinda ok, noisy as heck though. I recut the areas I just cut to get hem lower, stop the tractor, and the belt flies off.

I'm so sick of this deck, what a waste of good money. Not to mention all the time spent getting springs, replacing the belt numerous times, and gas money spent running to various stores trying to get parts.

CC 60" deck is junk IMO. I know some of you haven't had problems, but I would think that your the minority. Should have bought a 3pt finish mower, what a mistake.

Anyone think I can unload this deck on ebay for a couple of hundred? I need some money for a 3pt mower. Only about a hundred hours on the deck, with backup blades for the mower. Or should I list the whole thing on EBAY and reinvest the money into another brand. 6284 with FEL, 60" MMM, and KK 5' rear blade, and tow behind lawn roller, 167 hrs, 28hp cat engine, HST, 4wd.
