Bob_Skurka,
Yes we do have a seamless hopper design. We also have moveable lower link pins to fit the limited CAT 1 hitches on the sub-compact tractors and gray market tractors. Some of the other manufacturers have welded lower link pins that limit their tractor applications.

What I really wanted, and have not found (at least on the smaller PTO drivin units) is a heavily made stainless steel spinner assembly and gate assembly.

Bob,
Just this week I ended up buying a "Cosmo 500" spreader from TSC. It looks exactly like the units Mark and Ken have pictured. Apparently, Landpride's spreader is also a version of this. The gates, spinner plate, deflectors, and part of the agitator are all stainless. The floor of the hopper (and the hopper itself) are not. After one use, the paint on the inside, bottom of the hopper has been scraped to bare metal by a stainless rotating agitator part. I'm not sure of a good way to protect the "floor" of the hopper. But, I expect the moving parts, which are mostly stainless, will hold up real well.

The old unit the Cosmo is replacing is a paint over steel design, like the Cosmo, except that it is rectangular, and seams are bolted together. Even after five years of use, the hopper has held up with no rust spots. The spinner assembly hasn't faired so well, and has rusted too much to be easily repaired. That is why I, also, had been looking for stainless on critical parts.

Yeah, the Cosmo is made in Italy.

CCI,
All things considered, I'll take welded pins. They seem to withstand loosening and bending better. Not an issue as much on a spreader as on implements that get heavier usage, i.e, boxblade, etc.

Bob,

I was looking for a similar product.....I wanted to be able to spread sand and salt mixture here in the winter without destroying the spreader.

ThistleKop,
I can agree that a clevis hitch is stronger than a pin style hitch especially on a box blade. The reason we requested the offset capable and movable pin hitch is because the limited CAT I Hitches on Sub-Compact tractors do not conform to all the CAT 1 standards. It is a matter of if the best spreader in the world will not fit my tractor this that implement would be useless to me.
I can tell you that our $275 spreader is not as good or as strong as our $2000+ Lely spreader. Both of the spreaders work well and are good values for their intended markets.

The biggest difference in Herd and the tub/funnel seeders that we dealers offer, is that the Herd is a Precision seeder capable of cutting the flow rate on white clover down to 1-2 lb per acre

This thread had helped solidify my decision to buy the Herd when the time comes. I really have limited needs and having something that can me more of a precision unit seems like something I would want.

I also was impressed by the on line catalog of parts for the M-96 (with prices) at the Herd web site.

For my needs/wants it seems like the Herd is the winner even if it is more expensive...

Thanks to all for the great input to this thread! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jim,
Vicon is a brand used by some golf course mx. folks to spread sand on greens.
For weeks I've been searching the net and looking locally for a used Vicon, but no luck. They are very expensive.

OkieG,
Cosmo makes a copy of the Vicon spreader for considerably less money. There are different sizes available.

After every use, clean the whole unit completely with a garden hose, then let it sit out in the sun to dry. A leaf blower also helps the drying process. After it's dry, give all metal parts a liberal coat of WD-40.
