Spreader CCM Fertilizer Spreaders

   / CCM Fertilizer Spreaders #41
I bought used Vicon spreader, about 20y old, in pretty good shape. It is very usefull like precision seeder.
Hopper is something like fiberglass, mechanism is casted gray iron, and measuring plates were painted, and I bought new one from stainless steel.
New cone one was about 300$, when I paid Vicon about 620$.
Didn't regret decision (yet).

Most of our neighbours have either FERTI (Agrex) or domestic produced spreaders for several years, and they are satisfied with them. Our domestic (local) produces makes stainless cones, too. It is not too expensive, compared to powder painted units.

If I could find a spreader that would do Ag Lime, I'd probably get in the business of liming small acreages. I have only found one company that spreads lime and they have a 200 ton minimum. I only need about 3 tons. Ag lime runs about $4.50 a ton, pelletized is $115/ton.

FWIW, I went to a dealer to take a look at a Herd, but when I got there, the salesman said they didn't carry it. At any rate, there was not one there to look at. I did look at a Frontier brand which from a distance looks like a Cosmo. However, it is IMHO much better built. It is a little more expensive, at $595 for one the same size as the $399 unit at TSC. It has a seamless hopper and the ability to bias the spread left or right.

I would check to see if the Frontier was made to what specs? Maybe better or may be worse than Cosmo. Most Mfgrs make 2-3 grades of basically the same implement--Ken Sweet

You could very well be right. All I can tell you is there are a number of differences between the Frontier and the Cosmo I looked at. For instance, the Frontier feeds out the bottom and has a much more robust and finer metering system. The hopper is also seamless.

But for all I know, it could have been made alongside the other Cosmo's in Italy. I would prefer to buy something made in the USA but that is not always possible. I know the Herd is, so that's one plus for it.
