An update...
The connecters are fine, both male and female.
I took it to the dealer. They replaced the valve, and the same issue happened.
As it turns out, the linkage was improperly installed, not allowing the valve to be operated correctly. Now it works and travels in both directions. A frustrating problem, but an easy solution, once they knew where to look.
