Been wet here all spring. I tilled down about 3 inches yesterday to help it dry out some. I'll make another pass this afternoon. Time to plant some things in the garden here.

Glad you like your tiller. From what I saw on my visit all the CCM tillers are heavier than most of the other brands. I bought the 90". Will use it on pasture also. I use an electric seeder on the front of the tractor to broadcast the seed. Then set the skids on the tiller so it'll just chip the soil and run at a faster ground speed. I'll also pull a cultipacker behind the tiller. Seed in one pass. I tried it with the Caroni and it did a great job. It's also great for spot seeding.

Thanks Frank. I don't know much about a B2400.

I should have gotten a shot of the tines. They look to be about double the size of the tines on the Caroni I had. I needed something heavy enough and something that would run over a good deal of acreage before it needed tine replacement. I already know this fall I'll go over 18+ acres reseeding and some spot seeding. That's why I went for one more of the agricultural type. I might even hard face these tines as they wear. They're thick enough that they can be built up.

Charolais, Sounds like you have the reseeding down pat. Sounds like a good idea. That is essentially why I bought the tiller. I don't care so much about the garden right now as the pasture. It's an old pasture that was used and abused before I bought it. I want to slowly bring it back to great shape. Bob

Hi drpepper. We use Fescue here and some other grass as well. But Fescue has it's place in southern Va. I have what I call chip seeded into the second week of Nov. here and gotten an excellent stand of grass. For grass I want a firm seed bed. When you chip say an inch to two inches depending on what you want to do, it makes a good seed bed. Another thing with the Fescue is clover will over run it and kill it out at times. There may be some Fescue sod but very little in places when the clover takes over. When I chip it leaves the Fescue that's already there and knocks that clover back so the new seed will come up.

I've used no-till drills with great success and have a few times made a flop of it too. Here conditions have to be darn near perfect for no-till grass seeding to work. The going rate per acre for no-till is $10-$12 now. Spot seeding with a no-till is almost impossible because it's hard to see where you've already seeded. I guess a foam marker would work but never seen one with the foam being used. With the tiller there's no problem seeing where you've already seeded.

Then we get down to owning a no-till. Just a few years back a 7' Great Planes drill new was close to $15,000. Used drill in good shape run $6,000 on up. I use a $325 ele. spreader, a $150 cultipacker and this new tiller. And the tiller can be used for other jobs as well. It may be a little slower seeding but I got the rest of those $$$$ in my pocket. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You got the right idea for seeding behind the tiller. You get more grass from broadcasted seed than the rows behind the no-till also.

Sorry if I missed this, but how wide is it? Looks to me somewhere around 8'?

Charolais, again you are lucky. Fescue won't grow here. We only get 19" of rain a year. I'm planting Sideoats Grama and Buffalo grass. Talk about a shock to the ole pocketbook. Besides, Fescue can pose a problem to my mares. It sure is pretty and nutrious though. One of these days when I win the lottery, I'm planting Tifton Bermuda and irrigating it. Till then. Bob

Hi pekabu. It's 90". Don't think in deep soil I could pull one more row of tines. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The tractor is 73 HP and it's got all the load it needs with that tiller. I posted above about pasture use. That won't be nealy as much load, I'll just cut an inch to two inches of soil and move along at a pretty good clip.

I got my CCM tiller a few weeks ago, but finally unpacked it this weekend. Is there supposed to be a manual with this? I figured it all out pretty well, but as this is my first tiller, I was hoping for some pointers on maintenance, set-up and so on...

My manual was in a plastic bag under the plastiwrap covering the tiller. It is mainly safety information. It does have drawings and part numbers. Nothing on operation, I just figure it out as I go. It doesn't take long. Important thing is to check the oil levels and cut the PTO shaft if necessary. Good Luck. Sure CCM would send you a replacement if you don't have it. Bob

I'll second what drpepper said. I drove out to CCM and picked up my tiller so they gave me the manual before I left. Not much on a tiller to adj. The skid shoes for depth is about it. When you hook up to the tractor just level it out with the top link and lift arms.

I'm an Amsoil user so I run 10 to 20 hours before changing the gear oil over to synthetic gear oil. But that's just my personal preference. I also like to grease before each use or daily for the bigger jobs.

If you didn't get a manual I'm sure they'll mail it to you.
