Theo,

I checked again and found at least one site where it specifically said the receiver fit in the canopy, so I guess you do get both the hand held unit and the receiver for about $50. They only show the hand held or wall mounted units, but apparently the receiver is included too. I do know you can get just a replacement sending unit because they have those at Lowes. Do they have the kits at Lowes?

I'm not sure if either lowes or home depot carries them. i will find out tonight if home depot does. otherwise i'm thinking online order. still got to figure out why so many people are having so much trouble with the hunter remotes.

but let me ask this. does your fan pull chain work at all when routed as designed?

Theo

Wouldn't know as I set the fan speed before buttoning it all up & leave the fan chain hanging in the globe.

BTW, I THINK I paid around $17-$20 for the Hampton Bay remotes, from Home Depot.

Just got back from home depot. folks there were very decent and helpful. they took a brand new one out of the box and showed me that the pull chain should work even at the 120 degree angle. it was not exactly smooth, but it did work whereas mine won't move at all when routed. they gave me three options. return it for a refund, return it for an exchange or call hunter again and have them send me a new switch. if hunter won't send a new switch, home depot said they would take one out of a new fan box, verify it works and swap it for mine. can't ask for much more than that. regarding the remotes, home depot did not have the hunter. instead they recommend and sell the hampton. about $30 complete.

One thing about the remotes I notice when I installed some fans that had them. All the ones I've seen REQUIRE the remote. IE, turn on light switch and you get nothing, push light button on remote after turning on switch, you get light.

I ended up taking them all out of my fans because I didn't like have to search for yet another remote.

I can understand that sentiment, with all the remotes I have for satellite TV, DVD, etc. I don't know if my fan can be set up to operate without the remote; I installed it, but I don't remember any manual controls even being there. However, the remote is mounted over the light switch, so it is pretty handy when it works. I took my remote to Lowes and it works with some of the fans there, which means it is the receiver that is screwed (probably). I just got off the phone with Hunter and they tell me I need the exact model number so they can send the me correct receiver, though I was under the impression they were all the same. I'm at work and figured I could get it ordered easy....never seems to work out that way. Anyway, the lifetime warranty is only on the motor, not on the electronics, so it will be interesting to see if the remote receiver is more or less that the kits with both remote and receiver that can be had for less that $40 at Lowes. The only problem with those kits is that they may not allow reversing the fan, though it sure seems dumb to me that they wouldn't since just about all Hunter (and other brand) fans reverse.
