Century or Kubota

Not to quibble, but isn't that the second stage? I always thought the numbering sequence followed the engagement sequence. Not so?

Eddie, here's a Web Link to a discussion of PTO types.

Eddie, don't beat yourself up over this, Kubota has offered 0% financing for the last few years for 3 year loans (thats how I bought my ultra smooth Kubota L3830 HST) as has JD and even NH. Think about what the lending rate is anyway, its quite low. I think your looking for a reason to buy the Century so just do it. You don't seem to be too familiar with tractors and a good reason to come to this forum. A jog in the tractor around the dealers yard tells you very little, it actually will take hours to really find out what makes them tick. Price is a big concern for most all of us. If the Century you saw is what you need and a price you like, go for it. Your not going to get GST on the Century or HST, but it sounds like you really aren't all that familiar with it anyway. The shuttle shift is a huge improvement over the old manuals and I'm sure the Centurys is fine. I just happen to think HST, especially for my needs is far superior to a shuttle shift and bear in mind, I use a shuttle shift tractor in the NH 2120 and Kubota L4850. The GST from Kubota is available in a 24 speed as I recall.

Don't rely just on a salesman to tell you why one is better then the other, get eduacated. Rent one if necessary. Try the loader if at all possible. Check cycle times on the loader. Smoothness of the engine, try Kubotas HST, even better, rent one, it will take several hours just to get a good grasp of its potential.

In the end, it's doubtful you will be making a mistake. Resale shmesale, if you never plan to sell who cares what it is. If price and value are a really big concern, consider buying used. We have dealers here who resell all makes and at far less then new. One dealer here has several hundred used models available, I suggest that as an alternative to even a Century. It's a very real option for folks on a budget. This is going to be a big decision and fun, you can over analyze it and remove some of that or just go with your gut feeling. I say you go out and get the Century and move on to green pastures that need mowing. Rat...

A lot of people would prefer independent to live, but perhaps "better" is not the right word--different. Are you going to resell? If so, I would guarantee a kubota, right now, will be better in the resale market than Century, just because of their name. Some of the used John Deeres sell for more than the new ones! Stupid, I know, but that's what happens with name recognition. If you are not going to resell, stop worrying and go on down the road to the Century dealer. Did you ever look into adding a loader and other implements? This makes your $4100 turn into $6000 or more!

"Did you ever look into adding a loader and other implements? This makes your $4100 turn into $6000 or more!"

I must admit the prices for the Century are certainly less. That means a Century loader and all the attachment hardware cost about $1800 to $2000 including all the hydraulics. That is a great price and it makes you wonder how they do it. I'm sure if I went out and bought 4 quality long stroke rams and a control valve alone I would be up in the price they want for the entire thing. It should prove to be quite a competitor as its name gets more recognition and of course, develop a HST for folks like me. I agree, Eddie should just get the Century so he can start discussing oil changes, grease, you know all that boring stuff /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Rat...

I need the tractor for brush hogging mostly. I'm going to buy an industrial backhoe to handle my loader and digging requirements. I'm going to look at a New Holland 555E this afternoon.

I don't think I'll need the use of a loader on the CUT if I have the other.

I'm sort of **** whith research and did a payment schedule comparing the Kubota and Century at the diffenernt interest rates available along with the term of the loans. The price difference is so big that 0% interest doesn't even make a difference.

I make my presentation to my banker later this week and I will recomend we purchase the Century with a Land Pride 5' brush hog and 6' box blade.

Thanks for all the input!

Only a 5' brush hog, don't want to consider a 6' hog cutter?

Interest rates and small loan amounts based on relatively short financing periods really don't amount to much, it's often a point of concern but when you crunch the numbers, it just doesn't make that much difference.

Before Kukje Machinery they were called "Dongkuk" which is the name of their parent company.

I am trying to make a similar decision, but based on the posts here, the prices I am getting are quite a bit more. I went to a Century dealer and a Kubota dealer today. The Kubota prices I posted in that forum a few minutes ago, in response to an inquiry in that forum. The Century was nice- they only had the 2535 on the lot, they are a brand new Century dealer, and the units had arrived just before I got there. Because I had studied everything about the Century units, and thanks to this forum I knew a lot more than the salesman about the units - though I do not blame him as it is a new line for them, and he readily admitted he had to get up to speed. But, I was quoted $$17,231 for the 2535 with the C-50 unit (but not with HD bucket - IS ONE AVAILABLE FROM CENTURY ??) and the unit already had industrial tires. There would be a $100 delivery charge - though I suppose they would waive that to make a deal. I inquired about what the bump would be for the 3045, and he thought it would be about $700 more. I pointed out what I liked and what I thought was needed with the units, and so on. It is a nice tractor - it comes with quick detach feature which is an extra with Kubota, and this one had the R4 tires, an extra with Kubota. If I could get the $10,900 base price you were quoted, I think could add a loader (withHD bucket), a mower, a box blade, a post hole digger all for the price of the L3830 Kubota GST alone. I have not done all of the precise math but I think I could even upgrade to a 3045, and perhaps add a back hoe for the price of the L3830 with the FEL, HD bucket, quick attach, R4s, PHD with 9", mower, BoxB, added into the Kubota - for which I was quoted $25,730. Century does not have the extension feature for 3PH. I think I could be happy with the Century with all of the above and HD bucket, if available, but your base price is so much better - I have to continue to negotiate - or keep looking. I am also trying to find a Kioti dealer in the area. This Century dealer is about 65 miles.
