It seem I'm always special...but never in a good way. Found a starter out on the web but $452.29 plus shipping. OUCH!!!!! Found the internal gear for 17.78 plus shipping...anything else that anyone could suggest that should ne replaced at the same time? I'm leaning towards rebuilding it as it's not too old..
If it is only going to cost $20 to put a gear in it, that certainly seems to be worth a try.
Please post the part numbers, and anything note worthy when your done. That way when Wacky's starter goes, he will know what to do. :thumbsup:

There is no dead spot, the nylon gear is missing teeth in three spots and the rest look mashed. Irving J...it apears that this starter is used on the GC2400 and 2600 series,and the newer 2300's but not totally sure from there. The Denso interchange number on it is 22800-8160. Waiting for a call back from the dealer's service department to see what they have to say. The first response was that it was a new one for them.

Ah! Now I see where the nylon gear is! I'll look in my GC book to see if it's the same set-up. Thanks for the photo!
Incidentally, I think that's precisely the same type of starter set-up (planetary gears with an outside ring gear) my '82 Virago 750 has, and they're famous for "blowing" starters. Sounds like a metal can full of marbles being shaken when I start it. So far, however, it still does the job- just sounds like ****!:laughing: My GC doesn't sound unusual, though....
